Difference between smoke and Sanity testing

Testing the basic or critical features of an application before we do thorough testing is Smoke Testing. We do smoke testing to verify if the application is testable or not in the beginning itself. Minimum set of test cases that covers the maximum coverage of an application is Sanity Testing. Testing previously failed test cases on new build to verify that previous defects are actually fixed or not is Retesting.

Clarify: sanity testing: if any of the functionality not working during smoke testing we reject the build...now that failed functionality is fixed by Dev....now doing thorough testing on this particular defect which was failed on previous build while performing smoke test is called sanity testing...

Thanks Mukta.. but as Sanity testing is part of regression testing, I hope that is correct. However retesting comes into picture with Defect life cycle.

Same in case of smoke testing but there's one thing makes them different from each other that is, In smoke testing we do package validation also & backend developer gets involved in this process. BTW a cute software tester 😅

Smoke testing is simple, Once you get the build from developer ensure it is eligible for next levels of testing with few major scenarios... If not working as expected, inform developer to fix the issue to proceed with the testing further, otherwise your testing will be completely blocked 😢 Manual & automation tester form Banglore 🎉

Smoke testing is used to check all builds are stable or not Sanity testing means It perform after smoke testing,bug fixing It is used to check specific functionality without going deeperor bug fixes in build Whenever you get bug fixes then you perform sanity testing at high level When you perform retesting During test execution,we perform retesting There is no confusion for smoke, sanity and retesting
