I felt that on Britain’s they did care more and u weren’t just a number...at elimination on America’s we weren’t even allowed to go to the toilet or anything...member when Ken mock came in and was just shouting at us 😂 I’ve never ate so much chicken Caesar salad either than I did on America’s 😂 the thing that I found strange was that on Britain’s we could talk to camera crew but on America’s u weren’t allowed which to me made me feel more uncomfortable...not sure about u but this was my feelings lol but yeah I’m like u, I wont even watch Britain’s and I’m embarrassed by me where as ion America’s I think I behaved soooo much better xxxx

The older ANTM seasons sounds like how BNTM was. The makeovers were less extreme and the models seemed to get more out of it check the early seasons out when you get the chance

Two further questions: 1) How did each show feel making in terms of actually setting you up to be a model vs. filming a reality show? 2) Do you feel like there’s a cultural difference between the shows as far as what the judges were looking for in the looks, photos, and performances? I heard Mr Jay in one of his chats say he felt ANTM was way more about having a big personality and brand a la 1990s supermodels, whereas when he did Canada’s NTM he was looking more for modern working models that don’t necessarily need the big personality to be successful. I also remember watching BNTM years ago and thinking that had it been ANTM, a different girl would have won, so I’m interested to hear what it felt like from the inside of each show.

End of the day both shows are just that reality tv and they both gave me skills that helped me in my career but not necessarily directly as a model. That’s interesting about Mr Jay it’s makes sense different countries look for different things and have different ideas of what makes a model.

Hi Annaliese. Thanks for the video, once again it was superb, very entertaining and informative. I was SO looking forward for your BNTM recaps, but I think it's a very admirable thing that you prioritize your own state of mind and comfort over creating content for KZbin, it shows that you have your priorities straight and that you are not at all a "fame hunter" as Sophie called you :D Kinda wish you mentioned the opening titles: The British one used four your cycle is one of my favorites starting with the piano music and nicely changing into the early ANTM style "na-na-na-na-na-na" while you girls were posing around the top model logo as opposed to the totally over-the-top, cheesy but fun one ANTM had for the All-Stars and British Invasion cycles. Also (I have also not seen your BNTM cycle since it originally aired, but planning on rewatching it) what I remember from it is that it had a LOT of drama between the girls. Everyone hated Chloe, Viola crashed with a lot of people, Ashley was also very confrontational during that cycle and I actually really did not like Sophie as a person on BNTM (as opposed to her appearance on ANTM where she was nicer and more fun) as she always seemed the starter of the cat fights and really dropped nasty comments about everyone in her confessionals. BUT I have to give it up for her and Daisy for creating one of my all time favorite moments when they lied about meeting a made-up French designer when in fact they were taken to meet Abby Clancy who is super famous in Britain (and actually ended up hosting the last 3 seasons of BNTM), but since everyone hated Chloe, her cousin it seemed that they were super disinterested in her :D. So they made up this fake French designer and all the girls, especially Jade was ranting on in their confessionals about how much they like his works and want to model his designs when he did not exist at all :D :D :D it just showed that the girls did not really care for or studied fashion as much as they should and just pretended to know designers... :D

I’m glad how you mentioned what you were subjected to in the second photoshoot, the nude mango photoshoot. You ladies really were exposed far more than any girls had been on ANTM. As exploitive as ANTM can be, they have always censored the nudity shoots and never fully exposed girls bodies. I think it’s a cultural thing. One of my dear friends made a lot of films in Great Britain in the 70s and nudity was required for some jobs. Particularly for Hammer Horror and Confessions of a Window Cleaner (Annalise, you’re probably too young to remember those movies lol) But as long as the nudity was tastefully done, it was no big deal to her. We both think that America is more “prudish” when it comes to views on nudity and sexuality. Europe is much more flexible with nudity and censorship than American is. Would you agree? Or is my assumption totally wrong?

klassicalmuzik I do agree it’s a cultural thing; like topless sunbathing in Europe is nothing (defo not in UK FYI) but I expected more from a tv show. It’s wasn’t the nude modelling but the exposure of those images that I think was kinda wrong. I was less concerned then but more concerned now; I think they could have blurred out the images.

Annaliese Dayes Thank you. My grandpa was originally from the UK so I have some understanding of the contrasts between British culture and American culture. Not a whole lot, but maybe a bit more than the average American. And yes topless sunbathing would never pass here in America unless one is in certain parts of California or on a nude beach. But America has become a tad bit more lenient with women breast feeding in public in the last 10 years or so, but thats a bit of a different area. Yes I agree, they could have done more for you and the other girls. I mean when they did the nude shoot in cycle 14 of ANTM, they at least let the girls wear flesh colored pasties. It’s unfair that you guys didn’t even get that option.

I saw your mango picture the other day (I had completely forgot about it) It was on the antm reddit threads! I remember thinking 'damn these are all a bit out there' I don't mind nude photos hoots but I like the illusion of nudity so there's actually not much to see. I do worry about things like that in bntm putting the wrong impression on young girls who want to model.

I much prefer watching bntm! It's more realistic and focused on the industry. I haven't come across your cycle on youtube though! I have only watched (I believe) cycles 6 and 10? The ones where Tiff and Ivy win. Gosh they were so good. It's amazing to see how much better the modeling is across the group on bntm to be honest! So funny that antm was so cheap with giving you guys any goodies.... not surprised at all haha.

For the ANTM: British Invasion cycle, I thought the British contestants were much nicer than the American contestants (except for AzMarie who was my favorite American contestant that cycle).

Ugh... the makeovers were so blah. Lol I like the idea they were going for on ANTM with you, however as a hairstylist I wouldn’t have given you sew-in weave if you aren’t used to it. You can do micro link weave and get the same effect without the braids. It would have been better on the scalp. They do love doing the sew-ins on ANTM though. Lol I still have to hunt down your bntm season and watch it!

Btw, i still wonder about the Top Model house size. I believe the big mansion of Top Model have some rooms for the production crews to edit the recording and of course for their bedroom. I want to know about judging panel time. As i watched from both BNTM 5 and ANTM 18, the judging time on BNTM was at night time while on ANTM was day time. Which time do you prefer ? Are the girls still have meal time during panel deliberation as the judges take long time to deliberate ?

Yeah both houses had extra rooms for crew etc we also filmed confessionals in a room in the house. I totally forgot they we technically filmed at different times. Both eliminations took hours. I’m guess they just started later on BNTM

In your cycle, the biggest difference between BNTM and ANTM is the photoshoot quality.. even the challengue.. in ANTM until cycle 2 was high fashion.. more fashionable in the makeovers.. sadly in the last cycles the quality was terrible.. i

In my conclusion: America's Next Top Model = back from 2011 I watched Cycle 17 because I'm rooting for the Barbie-ish blonde girl Allison Harvard and everyone's seize her absolutely gorgeous. Next is Cycle 18 when Americans and British battling up which of them really the best, many audiences thinking that the British girls had a strong contenders including Annaliese (are you supposed to be like Spice Girls' Mel B. aura) I can't say more they're so bomb. British Next Top Model = In the Philippines it didn't aired on Cable TV so firstly I research on Google the winners and each episode plots, previously not much trending on Twitter if I'm wrong okay.

I only knew most of you Brits mostly from ANTM. So I am somehow surprised that you were "obnoxious" somewhere else. I don't remember much of things, but I don't recall thinking you were someone not nice from ANTM. I think when I watched that season, I even thought the British had it really together and rather composed and behaved (especially when compared to the Americans, no offense meant). On the other hand, I am not completely surprised because I also saw some clips and even full episodes of BNTM on TV way back then and Ashley was there and she was, if I'm not mistaken, rather abrasive, though I thought she stood out to me. So when I saw her on the first episode of the British Invasion, I already recognized her and Sophie. And when that show progressed, I hardly recalled the abrasive Ashley. Hahahaha. Anyway, point of the matter is (in summary), I am surprised you, Annaliese, was obnoxious in BNTM as I saw you and the other Brits as behaved and all in ANTM, yet I am not completely surprised if you were, given my rather parallel "experience" with Ashley. :D
