I used to own a security installation company and did quite a bit of structured cabling installs toward the early 2000”s. When I pre-wired my own home, when it came to whole home audio - wasn’t comfortable enough with any particular brand available at that time, so I ran a ton of spare cable, pvc conduit and corrugated innerduct. I eventually installed Russound gear (keypads & multi zone amp) using a tuner as a shared input. Eventually, I added a PC with a library of MP3’s just running continually with rdp to allow me to “jump over” to the PC playing the MP3’s so I could change selections, etc.. Then I discovered Sonos.... great stuff for the time period (Using Zp80’s and 90’s as “sources” for the Russound amps) and I installed 12 or 13 pairs of Niles speakers, pairing up 2 pairs per channel on the Russound system. Eventually I replaced the entire Russound system with a bunch of Sonos Zp120’s (built-in amp) and 10 of the cr100 keypads which I hung over the holes remaining from the Russound keypads (single gang boxes and mud rings). Now that Sonos is playing games with legacy gear (“recycle mode” aka bricking!), I am going to leave the speakers in place and mix & match components to build out something that meets my current needs. This seems like a great place to start... thanks! Ps; WHEN YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET TO ROUGH-IN YOUR INSTALLATION -->>ALWAYS RUN SPARE CABLE / LEAVE SLACK \. RUN EMPTY PIPE

Yes i will update the description for those and will make a youtube video detailing how to set it up. I'm not sure, i would think it would work because it's made by the same company, but the developer of the app says to use the iTach flex models. And you are right, i don't know if the serial cable would be a straight through or a null/cross cable. They are almost the same price so i'd play it safe and stick to the flex models. But if you want to do an experiment go for it and let me know how it goes!!
@pointman0418
@pointman0418 6 жыл бұрын
Ok, cool. Thanks man. Are you basically setting a static IP on the iTach flex device and the app is directed towards the static ip on the network? Curious to know how the app knows where to direct its control to?
@TheKMZ1
@TheKMZ1 6 жыл бұрын
Yep exactly, static ip on the itach device, then it's just a matter of plugging in the cables. In the app settings, you just enter the ip address and that's about it. Then in the app you define your zones and sources. I would imagine for most (non technical) people, the hardest part would be setting the static IP. Aside from that i'd consider it plug and play.

I have a client with a broken NUVO system; After many failed attempts with NUVO technical support, we decided to switch to another system. I watched your Videos and I think the best option is the Dayton Audio DAX66 amplifier, we have already the entire network of UTP and Speakers so, my question is ..... Do you know something similar to the NUVO NV-MPS4 server? In this server you have 320gb of memory, it has 4 independent Audio outputs and you can control them from each zone with different audios simultaneously. We will definitely buy the DAYTON system, could you help me with a music server compatible with this system? Regads !!

Great informational videos!! Based on your video’s I just purchased the Monoprice amp (to be delivered next week) also ordered the Sonos connect (to be delivered next week) to connect into the source side of the Monoprice. Hoping you can help me with a question I can’t find an answer to? If the Sonos connect is in input 1 source of the Monoprice is there a way to change the station (IE: Pandora) rock to country from a room other than my network closet? Not yet familiar with Sonos, but I’m under the impression that I can listen to different stations? Just wondering if I (or a family member) would be in a room where I set up a wall keypad, will we be able to change the station? I understand from your videos that the keypad allows us to change sources but not sure if it can change stations from the one source? Thank you in advance and Thank you for these informational videos!! John...

When my house was in framing stage I made a sudden decision to add whole home audio. I ran 14g speaker wire as well as cat5e cable to 6 boxes to be volume controls and then 16g speaker wire from those volume controls to 6 sets of in ceiling speakers. I neglected to add any subwoofers, and that's potentially one concern since I do like to be able to get some bass. My other thought is that perhaps I could save some money simply using slider volume controls, but then I'm not sure how an amp/receiver would direct the sources to separate zones? Is there a lower cost option that would allow 2-3 sources to be split between the zones? Also, do you have any good speaker recommendations? I installed 6.5" rough ins, they could be cut out I suppose but I'd prefer to avoid that and just use 6.5" speakers. Also, what do you think the difference would be sound quality wise between using the 1 amp like you did in your home vs using two amps bridged into 100watt 3 zones, so you'd have 2 3 channel amps doing 100w per channel ?

@TheKMZ1
@TheKMZ1 5 жыл бұрын
I don't have any experience with the Nuvo Grand Concerto but looking at the price, it is expensive, even if you bought 2 monoprice units you would probably be cheaper than that amp. If you need more than 6 zones you will need to add an additional monoprice amp, and hook them together. This will give you up to 12 zones. If you need more than 12, you can hook 3 up, giving you an 18 zone, 6 source system.

Nathan In one of my overviews where I detail my installation you might notice that in the master bedroom I put the keypad on a wall that didn't face the bed. I did that on purpose for this reason. Yes the light is fairly bright and there is no dimming option. In my parents install with the DAX66 I didn't think it would be a big deal and the light bothered them so much that they had to tape a piece of paper over it.

Nathan I hope the LEDs don't cause it to be a deal breaker! These systems are really nice especially for the money. I have not tried to disassemble them, and it's not that it would be that hard, but my main thing is that you cannot get replacement keypads to my knowledge. So if I ruined it I'd be out a keypad. If you could buy extra keypads I'd have no issue tearing into one!

How do set the key pad when doing more than 6 zone. I have 9 zomes
@TheKMZ1

The master amp gets address as 1 through 6 and the slave 1 amp gets address again starting from 1 through 6 and slave 2 amp also starts 1 through 6. When you flip the switch in the back of the amp it knows what's zone it is

I have Dayton audio 12 zones but don't have the kepad controllers is there a way to control the dax66 without all them? Have you looked at the wfa400 at Dayton audio with the app control feature?

On my channel I have a video which talks about how to control these using an app. You can get the iTach Flex and the iTach flex RS232 cable, and then with the iOS or Android app you can control them from anywhere in your house. You do not need to use the wall keypads if using the app!

@@dm-zx7tc for the itach flex there is really only a wifi model and a wired ethernet model so pick whichever will work in your situation and then don't forget a name brand itach flex rs232 cable. Don't get a generic cable they will not work

So with the Dax66 and itech flex setup is the WFA400 not needed for the streaming. I seen when you were programing your Android app you assigned inputs as RCA in rooms, so I'm assuming you ran long RCA or converted cat 5 to RCA some how so you stereo or cd player is a room. All of the specs are online, but 6 zones, 2 speakers in each or 1 if mono. If you need more you can buy another and link the 2 amps together for a total of 12 zones. You can add a 3rd for 18 zones

I hope they do, its a nice company and their products are nice and sturdy, I installed the HTD MCA-66 for a client of mine for over a year now he has been using it without any issues, A quick question, have you noticed any sound bleeding for other sources when playing from a different source, I saw a few complaints in the review on mono-price website although they mentioned its not very noticeable but its there so i'm wondering if you have noticed that too since you use Monoprice in your house and also wondering if the same happens with Dayton System

@@ChadAmI80 no it's not meant to be able to do that. If you need surround you'll need to look specifically for a surround amp, the monoprice amp does have pre amp outputs though.
