That's the funny thing about the comic book and novel adaptions of movies. They are based on early script drafts, in order to get them out at about the same time as the movies so sometimes things are changed on don't match. I recall that thing with the money being fake from both this comic and the novelization. I guess that one got cut or something.

The goon with the foot blades was in the movie; the knives extended in midair as he attacked Batman. He still got nailed in the groin, but actually survived, whereas Clarence simply missed Batman and fell through the floor. One of the few advantages to the comic; Burton's directing actually showed how you could take a great story in the comic and improve it even further. Another difference you forgot was that the young Jack Napier in the flashback is drawn as Jack Nicholson, not the actor Hugo Blick used in the film.

Some of these extra scenes in this comic, were actually deleted scenes from the film. The Alexander Knox was one of many. Most of the deleted scenes were shown on the 1989 Topps movie trading cards. I was five when "Batman" came out,and I used to have a ton of those cards.

Batman: Resurrection by John Jackson Miller is an upcoming novel set in the Tim Burton Batman universe with Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne / Batman as its protagonist. It is set to be released on October 15, 2024, by Penguin Random House. The novel serves as a direct sequel to the movie Batman (1989) and is set between the aforementioned film and its sequel, Batman Returns (1992).

Still have my comic book after all these years, as well as returns and forever:) I was 9 when the movie came out, and it is to this date my favorite superhero movie. What made it so good in my opinion was the excessive world building. The Architecture of Gotham City. The fashion, blending 80's with 50's fashion was brilliant and makes it stand the test of time. The atmosphere, despite the Jokers comedy scenes, the movie was very dark and serious. And the soundtrack was brilliant. A slight disappointment, when I went to buy the soundtrack, all I got were Prince songs and not the actual score.....

Comic book continuation In March 2016, artist Joe Quinones revealed several art designs he and Kate Leth had created to pitch a comic book continuation set in the Batman '89 universe to DC Comics. The pitch, which was rejected, would have included the story of Billy Dee Williams' Harvey Dent turning into Two-Face as well as the inclusion of characters such as Batgirl in a story that took place following the events of Batman Returns. In 2021, DC announced it would be releasing a comic book continuation of the Batman '89 film. The series would be written by Sam Hamm and illustrated by Joe Quinones. The comic's synopsis revealed that it would include the return of Selina Kyle/Catwoman, an introduction of a new Robin, and the transformation of Williams' Harvey Dent into Two-Face. Batman '89: Echoes A second series was announced by DC Comics on August 17, 2023. The first issue of the new series will be released November 28, 2023. It will be penned, once again, by Sam Hamm, with art by Joe Quinones. In the series, Batman has mysteriously disappeared after Dent's death, leading Gotham citizens to take to the streets to fight in his place. Scarecrow will be featured as one of the antagonists.

Now, I'm older and I'm more into the Batman mythos, and while Batman killing, the lack of character for Bruce Wayne, and the change of the origin story bothers me, this is still a wonderful Batman film. I’m surprised they didn’t include more from the original Sam Hamm draft, since they included the fake money at the parade and inferred Knox’s death. There was a lot Sam has written for the film in the last 2/3rds of the film that was either changed or removed due to concerns about pacing and the writer’s strike let Burton end the film however he wanted without Hamm’s ability to protest. That’s why Alfred let vale into the bat cave. Originally Vale figured it out on her own. She told Knox. Knox was planning to blackmail Wayne. Joker would have killed robin’s parents when running from Wayne in a civilian car chase that would have taken place after the Joker invaded Vale’s apartment. Oh and the joker would have had a giant speech/rally right before the parade scene to an entirely dead audience. It was pretty morbid

Doing the characters to look like the movie versions is a great fantasy but the reality is they would have to get permission from the actors and you would probably have to keep paying them to keep using their likeness and if they said no you would have to change just them (I'm thinking I ready that Signory Weaver refused to let her likeness be used for "Alien" comics so they had to change her character's appearance. Jerry Ordway is an excellent artist, you should check out his other stuff. He actually worked on Superman comics in the '80s and '90s (I think) and did an excellent job.

I had this comic in my hands, and I watched the movie hundreds of times, because I think it's one of the best. We really don't know exactly why they do this with comics, at least from the reader's point of view. Good Video!

It disappointed me that the comic did not include scenes in the shooting script that were filmed but then cut. One legendary lost scene is of a little girl who sees Batman running and asks, "Is it Halloween?" The biggest sequence that was cut followed the apartment scene, which ends not with the Joker leaving Vicki a gift package after shooting Bruce, but actually kidnapping her; then he and his gang leave with Vicki in a van. Bruce puts together a makeshift Batman costume and runs across the rooftops in pursuit of the van, at one point riding a horse; while he is still on horseback, Alfred drives up and gives him his full Batman costume. The van arrives in downtown Gotham just in time for the 200th anniversary festivities, and the Joker takes Mayor Borg hostage while ordering Vicki to photograph everything he does. Batman saves Vicki and the Mayor and the story continues as normal, except that Mayor Borg has a nervous breakdown and is unable to fulfill his mayoral duties, so Commissioner Gordon and Harvey Dent take over for him. (There was also a sequence during the van chase, cut out before filming, that had the Joker's van driving through a circus performance in the street and causing some trapeze artists to fall to their deaths; these are the parents of Dick Grayson, who then joins Batman in his quest for revenge against the Joker. I'm glad that the "Robin" part was cut out, but the scene of the Mayor being taken hostage would have fleshed out the running time a little more.)
