Apart from a Japanese tv series, I’m shocked that no American or British studios have made Masataka Taketsuru and Rita’s story into a film.

What a splendid timing, as I am currently about to dive into Japanese whiskeys... Definitely gonna try Nikka Yoichi first! Arrigato! 🥃❤

I had no idea all these bottles were so related. I would love to do a tasting of all of them at once like this. Only missing the Miyagikyo!

Hm, what an interesting tidbit about Japan purchasing whisky from Scotland and trying to pawn it off as its own. Some companies in my country (Russia) also buy so-called "bulks" from Scotland, to then bottle the distillate on our soil, the only difference is that they try to make it appear as if it's a foreign product. They make up corny brand names such as "Nucky Thompson" or "Glen Eagles" to give you the impression that it's an actual product of Scotland. Neither of those are horrible, by the way, but then why would they be if the bottles contain actual scotch.

My first Japanese whisky was at Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh. Slàinte!

I have tried some of the Japanese whiskies (can't remember specifically which), but I didn't care much for it at the time. Maybe my palate wasn't ready for it? I'd like to try it again, but I do prefer the heavier scotch whisky, Laphroaig and Oban being my favorites. The smokey peat and savory, salty notes appeal to me quite a bit.

I can understand why you might be a little underwhelmed by Japanese whiskies in that case as they tend to be on the lighter and more delicate side. Yoichi might be a good one to try although it’s definitely still not intense as your favourites! But that’s ok, everyone doesn’t have to like everything 😊

You mentioned making a rum video that talks about distillation methods. I didn't see a link in the video - is this the one you were referring to? kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqSznYRjeJx_opY

The correct spelling for Scotch and Japanese whisky is WHISKY. To deliberately misspell is a form of cultural imperialism. All you have to do is to check the label on the bottle.

Definitely a typo there but given the fact that I’m Scottish and this video is made in Australia (where both spellings are used depending on the distillery) I hope you can take it at face value and not as part of the American imperialist project…haha.

Japanese whisky... as over rated and over priced as scotch

Tenjaku used to be alright, wasn't too expensive and tasted good. Suntory I did not like at all.

I’d say that’s quite a generalisation! I’ve found independent bottlings are a good way to try some incredible whiskies at a more reasonable price point but as always, value is in the eye of the drinker.

I like the Nikka bottle (don't look at me like that) and the price, but is it going to feel like I might as well have got a Scotch?
