The population of Tripura's 19 Scheduled Tribes (Triprasa) dropped from 63.77% in 1881 to 31.78% in 2011. This is attributed to the migration of 6.10 lakh Bengalis - the figure almost equal to the State's total population in 1951 - from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) between 1947 and 1971.
