Excellent Demonstration and explanation of the different alternator pulleys. What is the expected lifespan of the OAP & OAD pulleys? Does it have a regular replacement interval? Thanks again for a great video.

Can you replace a solid with a clutched given everything else is equal?

manufacturer produce with solid pulley but I switched to OAP. I am happy with the result fuel econony and less vibration. my car is 2006 golf 1.6 fsi triptronic.

No. You must have the OAD.

Should any leak oil? No bearings in the pulley right? I'm learning to be rebuild and I just popped the cap off a junkyard denso and it has a bit of grease like oil behind the cap
@Litens-Aftermarket2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the OAD does have a bearing and grease purge is normal which is why there is a cap to help contain the grease.

Many times the pulley fails before the alternator as it is designed to absorb the harshness of the system. If the alternator has failed we would definitely recommend replacing the OAD.

@@Litens-Aftermarket it hasn't failed, I'm just trying to teach myself how to rebuild one so I bought a used one with 140,000 miles. The brushes definitely needs replacing as does the regulator that broke off the tip during shipping.

How does the pulley lock in the drive direction? Does it use a pawl to catch onto teeth?

Correct. It's a bit like a freewheel on a BMX hub

When was OAD adopted and why can't you put OAD instead of OAP or why can't you put OAP instead of a solid pulley? You should be able to upgrade, but you should never downgrade.
@Litens-Aftermarket3 жыл бұрын
The OE's determine what pulley type to use on the alternator based on the overall accessory drive. When a solid pulley or OAP is used it is often because an OAD is not necessary and adding an OAD will not benefit the system. Also, although OAD's can look identical on the outside there are differences inside on items like spring rates that will make each OAD behave differently. Thus, when an OAD is recommended it is because the OAD and it's internals have been designed for a specific OE system.

@@Litens-Aftermarket so which one is better? OAD OR OAP? Please enlighten me
@Litens-Aftermarket3 жыл бұрын
@@zulfitrialimin2564 We are not saying any one of these is better than the other necessarily. What we are saying is when replacing your alternator or the pulley you should use the same style pulley as the OE's used when manufacturing the vehicle. If when the vehicle was brand new and came with a solid pulley then a solid pulley should be fine the use as a replacement, the same goes for an OAP and an OAD. Where you start to have trouble is when the vehicle was new and came with an OAD and you try to replace it with a solid pulley or OAP.

The spring in the decopuler is specific for each car, cylinders, firing order etc. Basically the spring acts like a tuning fork for belt vibration.
