I was at a holding facility back in '07. A few of the guys in the Pod let me know that, when they "were locked up, if they got put in the same cell as a black man, they would beat them until the guards separated them", suggesting that I should do that, since I was the only one who had a black cellie. I didn't do it, because I'm not a douche and didn't fear any repercussions, and me and dude became cool and was able to get our weight up working out, and, if I'm honest, were both "The Change-Up" inmate, because we would read the Bible and pray. Anyway, prison/jail politics are a whole other animal vs. life on the outside.
@oakleysierney19184 жыл бұрын
I get so sick of hearing that excuse _"prison/jail politics are a whole other animal vs. life on the outside."_ What those guys said is evil, end of discussion.
@gradyhwilliamson64084 жыл бұрын
@@oakleysierney1918 that was my point. None of those guys would've ever said anything out of the way on the outside about me hanging out with a black dude, but, the fact that we were all locked up, they thought they had to "prove something" to "their race". I agree, they're way of looking at things is evil af, but, I wasn't taking the bait. I knew that I had to live with this dude, and none of them had any validated affiliation with any gangs, so I knew they didn't have a hit on me, thus, weren't told to fight me by any of their "superiors". Plus, they had already seen me fight, and I was 3-0 in that facility, so I knew they weren't gonna go one-on-one with me. The point I was making is that prison politics (yes, that is a thing) is just that, politics. It's all about control. Hardly any of them actually have true convictions about what they're "selling". If I were to do what they wanted me to, then they would've thought they had control. I don't know if you've been locked up before or not, but, that's how it is in Jefferson County Detention Center in East TN.
@oakleysierney19184 жыл бұрын
@@gradyhwilliamson6408 No, never been to prison, but yes I do get how different the politics as you put it are in there. My point is though some people will use the idea that prison is completely different than life on the outside to justify any horrible depraved thing they do. Such as beating up someone just because they are black. It's tricky because sometimes the different politics do mean that you have to do something that would be considered wrong on the outside. For example, someone takes something off you like you are a punk. So I can actually see where you pretty much HAVE to fight that person even though on the outside they advise you to not fight if you are robbed. But in prison you have to because then everyone would rob you like a punk if you didn't do anything. Ok, so there is THAT example where it's justified. But then why it gets tricky is people extending that to something as horrible as what those guys were telling you to do. And they use the same line "life on the inside is completely different". So they are taking something that has SOME truth, but going too far with it. You see what I mean? BTW , glad you had the moral conviction not to go down that path. Props for that.
