It would be nice to explain a more complex approach. For instance, when you have cross section roads with roundabounds and sidewalks and curbs... With a simple spline road it feels easy. And in most of the cases, architects modelers never received topographic files as simple as that.
@ashishdandekar33543 жыл бұрын
I like the 3rd one the most. The issue I find with the 1st one is that for more complex terrains, the road generated would also be of a jagged, complex shape, which is not how roads are. Option 2 seems useful but the result looked very unrealistic - I don't think for such sloping terrains, that much of earth/concrete fill is used. It might be useful if the road slope is known, or the terrain doesn't slope so drastically. Regardless, always love your videos and workflows!

at 4:45 -4:48 what is the name of the extension for the tool on the menu used to connect the line segments along the road?
@TutorialsUp3 жыл бұрын
The plugin name is "Quad Face Tools" a very useful tool in quad modeling this also allows to select "loops" and "rings" please watch the full video of this plugin for better understanding. tutorial available on my channel with this name - How To Use QuadFace Tools In Sketchup. Thanks
@transylvanianite33913 жыл бұрын
@@TutorialsUp thanks. When trying to connect a very long set of edges/lines, using the "Shift key and mouse "left button" is tiring and takes time to go through each edge when there are 100s or thousands. I'm sure there should be a lot of optional tools for selecting broken edges or lines to connect them in one click. The only problem with highlighting a square around the selected edges, will takes in other objects in the model and messes up selection. The selection should be able to "isolate" only the lines/edges to be able to group, or weld edges without including other unrelated objects in the model.
@TutorialsUp3 жыл бұрын
Did you ever use the "SketchUV" plugin besides It has very advanced UV features it also has a "Path Select tool" which is very useful to select long connected edges in a very easy way. This is why I create a separate video on this tool please search this hopefully you will find the video "Path Select and Save Selection tools for SketchUp 2021" Thanks hope this helps
@transylvanianite33913 жыл бұрын
@@TutorialsUp I haven't heard about the 'Path Select' tool, but it sounds logical for the use and from the title name. So I think it will be the right option for me. Thanks. I only know when isolating long broken lines from within a complex model, this would come in handy to avoid taking in other objects hopefully.
@zhuyt183 жыл бұрын
hi Just wondering if you can give me a hint of how do I project many flat quad surfaces texture to complex curved quad surfaces? like in this video, I want to project the road texture to the terrain below? The way I do it now is to project every face one by one, maybe there is a better way?
@TutorialsUp3 жыл бұрын
Can I know why you want to project texture? if you have quad faces project them and use the ThruPaint plugin on quads and textured them like in this video, by the way, there are two plugins. which I think will help you. I don't remember their names. give me a little time I will share the name with you soon or maybe one quick video. Thanks

@@TutorialsUp the terrain wont be regular quads, cos you have to cut a road out of the whole terrain, but thank you very much for the reply. not sure how to send you a screenshot link to explain more cos youtube wont let me send link. The question is: how do I make a prefect winding road texture on a terrain surface?
@zhuyt183 жыл бұрын
@@TutorialsUp ah, I found my way to do it myself, make a road on flat surface, use Drape to the terrain to cut out a road shape, use Align endpoints to the terrain surface to make the flat road surface fit into the terrain, add texture to it. delete the Draped shape on the terrain, and replace it with the road with texture.
@handyboy20005 ай бұрын
Roads are NEVER laid out using spline curves or French curves or ovals. They are ALWAYS designed with sections of curves with fixed radii. Pieces of a circle fitted together with all intersections at tangent points.

Second one is terribly irrealistic. Your terrains are quite smooth. One big problem with creating roads is that the pavement must be always HORIZONTAL on the cross section. While the road itself will adapt, along it's main axis, to the terrain, but up to a certain point (you can´t have too steep clumbs) Then the terrain adapts to the road... Most techniques to create roads will have the road adapting to the terrain both in its main axis but ALSO in it's cross section. So if the road is on the side of a mountain, you would have the pavement inclined several degrees, along with the mountain slope...
