@@CastleBomb44 Generally watching the industry endlessly repeating cycles will do that to a person I think. These days it's very dependent on what I'm doing. I use OpenBSD for routers/firewalls/dns/email services, FreeBSD for file sharing services and as my salt-master. Most of the Linux clusters where my user facing services live, are generally Alpine LXC containers in a ProxMox cluster. A very long-time Gentoo user, and I still maintain a small crossdev+distcc+ccache cross compiler cluster (raspberry pi's are pretty awesome for this if you have enough cores), but I've been using Arch on my desktop currently and have been toying with the idea of switching to Nix. I quit trying to GoldenHammer(tm) one distro/OS into every use case a long time ago. Trying to live by "Don't use hammers to put screws in, use the right tool for the job." has other benefits too. Namely, I always get to learn about new tools to see if they're a better fit for the toolbox.

@AndreaBorman9 ай бұрын
Gnome does have more customisation options than most people think. They are just disabled by default but you can enable them in Dconf Editor. If you want something that looks and works like Windows out of the box then KDE Desktop or Cinnamon Desktop is a good option. Both desktops already have the features such as start up and shutdown sounds enabled. They also have the Windows 7 style taskbar and start menu. You don't have to add any extensions.

Both have bigger hard drive space than what the new laptops have. Also I can remove the battery on both laptops. But I can't on the new ones.Because the battery is built into the laptop which is a bad idea because if your laptop freezes you cannot pull out the battery to shut it down.

0:49 Debian doesn't come with the latest packages. The newest version of GNOME is 46, which is available in Debian Sid (not a distro, but an official rolling release varient of Debian which you can activate by running some command) and other rolling release distros
@AndreaBorman9 ай бұрын
Ubuntu comes with Gnome 42 so Debian is one step ahead of Ubuntu. Gnome 46 is still in testing. It is better to use a stable version. The next version of Debian is Debian 13 Trixie but it is not stable as it's a rolling or Sid release. So it is better to stick with Debian 12 until 13 is officially released.

@AndreaBorman8 ай бұрын
You can change that by moving the top panel to the bottom of the screen and deleting the bottom panel if using Mate and Gnome Flashback desktop. With Xfce you can do the same thing and on Gnome just install the Arc Menu. I like the old Windows which is Windows 7. Because it has a start menu but that's not supported anymore.
