Great job on the video, ThanQ. I plan to try it out as the tide shows 0ft in the first week of October around 4pm. I was staying in Coronado last week and the water was quite warm even at night. I just want to add that I read that you should measure the clam immediately to determine whether it is legal size so as you dig it out, stick your foot into the hole so that you can place it back if it is undersized. California Code of Regulations, Title 14, section 29.4. Any clams which have a size limit and are not retained must be immediately reburied where they were found. It may take some time for clams to rebury themselves, leaving them vulnerable to the elements and predators such as birds. The proper way to rebury a Pismo clam is to place the clam with the hinge ligament (the dark bump where the two shells connect) upward and towards the ocean in a hole that is at least two inches deep, and then cover the clam with sand. Reburying undersized clams will increase survival and help the population expand. Cheers. 😁

Nice! Where did your get a clam gauge?
@onaslowboatfastmoto23324 жыл бұрын
I got mine at Dana Landing-it was a double sided one I think...one side was cut out for lobster spec and the other side for pismo clams. But I lost it on that day of the video! I just did a search and found the same one at Bass Pro Shop online (search ‘clam and lobster gauge’).

I sold a memory foam mattress on Craig’s list to a CDFW Officer, He told me of a “secret” pismo clam spot here in the Santa Barbara area, I intend to give it a try on the minus tide tomorrow. Thanks for the tips! Let me know if you wana go?
@onaslowboatfastmoto23324 жыл бұрын
I wish! I love Santa Barbara. Good luck. I also caught a video of ‘chimyshark’ check him out on KZbin. He DIVES for pismos in his video and looks like a better chance if your willing to get a little cold!!

I know exactly where they are but they are not in Santa Barbara They are in a town very close to it though. I know cause I live in that town and have been the only one besides one other fella looking for them in this spot. You dont need any tools just a measuring device and a backpack. Got to know what to look for when you go and they have a couple of ways they hide in the sand let you know they are there.

I thought you could only legally clam a half hour before and after sunrise and sunset?
@onaslowboatfastmoto23323 жыл бұрын
Well it may depend on where you are located... but in San Diego, it reads “Fishing hours: One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.”...so anytime in between. Just not overnight.

Hey if you want some real pismos try diving for them! I made a video not long before your vid on diving for pismo limits. Nice stuffed clam too. And yeah all those smaller ones are pismo clams. The other clams found eithe rhave rougher shells, thinner/lighter shells, or elongated shells. Pismo clams have pretty much symmetric, smooth, heavy shells.
@onaslowboatfastmoto23324 жыл бұрын
Great idea, I may have to do that next time...probably faster to just dive for them, and I was submerged anyway, lol. I'll check your video, too! And I appreciate the insight on the clam shell varieties. That's a huge help. I would love to make clam chowder next time. Cheers!
@chimyshark4 жыл бұрын
@@onaslowboatfastmoto2332 clam chowder is great because they have so much clam juice in them, but to be honest I recommend the Ensenada style clam gratin. It's suuuper good.

DT 1 second ago I would consider the impact you’re making when making videos about hunting for wild creatures. I am a San Diego native and my dad used to take me clamming in Coronado as a kid. I went out recently and noticed a significant decrease in the numbers of legal clams left. Imagine how many illegal clammers see your video and go poach exactly where you showed them to on your map- which has always been a low-key, local spot. Consider how your videos spread awareness and negatively impact these creatures and our environment.
