Your presantaion is very attractive and good, it's more useful if you're showing the finished, final jem stone also. Thank you

I really enjoyed this tutorial and hope you continue with your channel. I like supporting your channel by subscribing and am impressed on your starting your own KZbin channel. I plan to travel to North Carolina in the near future- will have to fly as we live near Lake Michigan. I love North Carolina…🖤Beautiful rocks you discovered today-purple fever. I love the music you chose near the end of the video. 🎸🎷🎼

I'm so glad North Carolina is on your agenda. It's such a special place. I would not trade it for anything at the moment. We have the same taste in music. I wish I could add more music but copyright laws make that an absolute challenge. Every video I learn something new and like the challenge. I really appreciate your comments and input. Your support mean so much to a small channel like mine. Lake Michigan also has some beautiful agates. I would be lost on the shoreline there. I've wanted to make a trip up your way for a long time now.

Thats cool is that the only place to dig in rowan county 😎👍🥇
@HighCountryRocks Жыл бұрын
It was a place to dig for a very short time. The construction crew was nice enough to share the wealth while people respected it. Idk anywhere else to dig in Rowan but I know the purple is all over that area.

there is about a 100 mile wide band that you can dig amethyst that can be found in lancaster pennsylvania, down into virginia, north and south carolina and into georgia. south carolina and gorgia

@@HighCountryRocks what is the best bet for finding quartz in the area? like within a half hour to hour from spruce pine? just curious.
@HighCountryRocks Жыл бұрын
We don't have many quartz crystals in the mountains. We have tons of Quartz just not crystals. Hiddenite is the best opportunity to find crystals. If you follow Digging with Daniel on Facebook he provides lots of info on quartz and locations that he has gained access too. He also does public digs on the weekends at two different places each weekend. Most of the time it is in Hiddenite or Shelby area. We have plenty of quartz around Spruce Pine the purest in the world Quartz Co. crush and process it and send it to Norway. That is what is going on in the massive mines that you see in Spruce Pine .. Pine Mountain Mine is an example..

I will say everyone that dug this spot was thankful for the opportunity and respected it. We keep close tabs on the digging around here.

Hard to say what that is really . Could be a mineralized breccia held together by quartz after everything around it turned to saprolite . Sad how so many good locations get snatched up and developed . Maybe some lucky digger will buy one of the lots and decide they need a big basement ...

Saprolite might be right. Awesome comment. Where I find corundum at it looks like the same kind of material which seems to be associated with the corundum. Nobody knows but we think that's the same type of material the corundum has weathered out of over time. It's just not as colorful as this. It has more mica in it. It's not that far away though as a crow flies no more than 40 miles. Thank you for your time and educated comment.

Saprolite does tend to look the same where ever you go . It is the link between mud and rock which is anything but missing , especially in the Southern Appalachians . The abundance of mica with the corundum is not an accident , and probably was once a contact between amphibolite and mica schist that was altered by fluids moving along a fault near by . But it is very hard to know for sure since everything was weathered to a nondescript red lump of hard clay , to an obscene depth , over time . Granites and high grade gneisses may out crop , but the schists and especially the basic and ultrabasic rocks really fare the worst . The amount of quartz really plays a role in deciding if you get kyanite / sillimanite , or , corundum , and why corundum is usually found where the weathering is the deepest . Quartz is very resistant to weathering , unlike feldspars and foid minerals , and where quartz is in abundance , you get aluminum silicates instead of aluminum oxides .

That makes so much sense and is so clear to understand. I really appreciate your input and willingness to share your knowledge. It helps me understand what you can only see out in the field.

You are welcome . I love your channel and hope to see more stuff . Was just going through an old collection of Cowee Valley material . You can't get that stuff no more , and it is a real shame .

It was a construction project near hwy 85 in Rowan Co. N.C. It is now no trespassing unfortunately. The project manager gave a window of time that it was open to dig before the building started. I only found out about this spot and gained access through the Facebook page North and South Carolina Rockhounds. Everyone did follow the rules so hopefully in the future there will be another opportunity on a new project site with the same construction company after they finish this job.
