Thank you!! I look mainly for deep coins, and was getting quite desperate how to find them, but this video really showed me THE trick to do it. Found a coin using exactly this method in my back yard. This with my Vanquish 540. Your the best, greetings from little Belgium

Excellent video demonstrating how the Equinox alerts on deep, desireable targets vs trash. If someone had put this out a year ago when I was still learning my EQ800, it would have saved me a ton of “trial & error”. Folks who are new to the Equinox and/or who are struggling to differentiate the junk from the deep keepers, pay close attention to this video!

Hi I love your videos!! Could you please tell us which segments you actually notch out for your program setup and a big thanks, keep diggin my friend!!
@detectorben80074 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! I can tell you my discrimination settings but I would highly recommend setting yours up based on the numbers you dig. There are many factors that effect what TID range different coins fall into. For example an Indian Head penny in my soil may come in at 19-20 but it may come in between 20-21 in your soil. Nickels hit solid 13 for some and 14 for others. So you may notch out a number or range that your coins fall into causing the signal to be choppy or completely disced out. I think the disc and tone pitch should be set to each users preference and based on targets you generally dig in your area. Hopefully that makes sense. If you still want to try my disc pattern let me know or send me an email bheimann@hotmail.com
@brandonnapper62344 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ben for the video. Do you mind sharing what your custom coins is on Disc?
@detectorben80074 жыл бұрын
I notch out from -9 to 12. Notch out 14-17 notch out 22 and 23. Rest is open. Nickels hit 12-13 here so that is open. Indians 18-20 and silver dimes and quarters etc rarely hit 24 -26 if worn but usually more like 27-34. That is the reasoning for my disc numbers. However I use the horseshoe button to open it all up quite often as well.

Hello Ben, to find the coins, do you always do a 360 degree check around the target before digging, or just a 90 degree? Thanks a lot!!
@detectorben8007 Жыл бұрын
Always best to do 360 sweep. But I often dig after a good 90 degree sweep if it sounds really clean and signal is consistent.
@brobrad24913 жыл бұрын
Ben, thank you for the video. I have only had my Equinox 800 for a few months and I have question about your first dig where you found the 1890 Indian Head Penny. I noticed the readout was bouncing, on average, between 18-to-30. Every time I get that type of variation it has always been trash, usually a crushed aluminum can or some kind of irregular shaped metal. I have always had a coin ring up within 2-to-3 numbers of each other, why would that penny you dug vary so much on the readout?
@detectorben80073 жыл бұрын
Deep coins often have a wide range of vdi. Especially when soil is moist. There are little nuances that you will pick up on over time on the equinox. I usually see that trash targets will cause vdi to vary even more and fall below coin range and give slight iron grunt or spike above and hit high like 38 or 39. They also vary more from different directions due to irregular shape. Pin point mode can give you clues as well. If it doesn't pin point like a small target or it is pin pointing off center of where the high tone was it is likely junk. Honestly though if I get any target hitting in coin range and maxing out depth meter I am digging it every time. Once you dig a few deep coins you will start to recognize them easier. Let me know if you have more questions and happy hunting! Thanks for watching!

Very helpful tips!! Thank you for sharing as I am new to detecting. Just purchased the equinox 800 for myself, Garrett AT pro for the wife. I should have purchased an equinox for the wife also as they seem to be have the most youtube content. Learning what the machine is trying to tell you takes time to understand and with people such as yourself that share their knowledge, helps us novice detectors reach that curve quicker. Thanks again sir

@detectorben8007 Жыл бұрын
Custom meaning I set the disc how I like it. I notch out certain segments that I don't like to hear or dig. These days I run wide open with no discrimination most the time. Unless the area is so trashy that I get overloaded with signals.

Yes many times! Every park I hunt has been heavily hunted for years by other detectorists. Often times I come across plugs dug by other detectorists. I don't have a video that shows me directly following anyone and finding coins but again these are all well known heavily hunted parks. Equinox is the best bang for your buck on the market in my opinion. I have used most other brands.

Ben. On your settings you have disc- custom coins. What is that??
@detectorben80074 жыл бұрын
It just means I have notched out certain segments of target id based on where most coins come in here. Most users should notch out or discriminate based on their soil and hunting conditions for best results so I don't really get into that setting much. Target id numbers can vary based on soil type, moisture, depth etc.

I am only familiar with us coins and how to set up equinox for my ground and us coins. I used the equinox in park 1 and park 2 when I was first learning and only adjusted sensitivity. I had a lot of success running the preset factory settings. I adjusted other settings after I got comfortable with machine. I would suggest starting that way as well. My settings may not work well for your coins and your types of sites. I do list my settings at the beginning of most videos if you want to try my settings.

Great info! I just got my new Nox 800 about a week ago and am trying to get the feel for it. Normally I just dig the consistent numbers no matter what they are but now I will start digging those high, erratic numbers. Do you normally hunt in park 1, and also do you try to keep your sensitivity as high as you can go for the ground conditions?
@detectorben80074 жыл бұрын
@Pilgrim777 Thanks! Yes I have found park 1 gets best depth in silver coins in my soil and test garden. Park 2 is better for lower conductors like nickels and gold. I also run highest sensitivity I can. Generally I am able to run 23-24 unless there is a lot of EMI. Good luck!

Hate to say it but for this price Equinox really sucks. Iron will disturb the signal even if this is a really small fragment of iron trash even if I lower the sensitivity below 20 and even if I discriminate iron. So because of that the target ID and tones are jumpy and you can't separate good targets from bad. On other metal detectors I was able to separate good beer cans from bad beer cans (just an example). The only ok thing about this detector is depth but even depth is better on most other metal detectors in the same price range. I don't want to be rude, but this is just my opinion.
@MrBottlecapBill4 жыл бұрын
Nails will confuse every machine. That's why most machines have an iron wrap around........iron will come in low(if really rusty and corroded) and really high like large copper if they're old square nails or bent rounded like a coin in fairly good shape. There's no way around that. If you are ignoring that higher iron wrap on any machine, you're also missing large copper coins and probably large silver as well from time to time. The way to tell the difference is consistency. The large copper and silver will usually lock on pretty hard. Nails will jump. You're correct about using to much discrimination. It makes for a lot of bouncy scratchy tones as you're hunting and usually trains your ear to ignore a lot of good but quiet hits. I usually run wide open......just lower your iron volume, put it in 5 tones and listen for the good stuff. There may also be gold anywhere you're looking for silver and it doesn't all come in the nickel range! You also want to hear the iron because it gives you information about the area you're hunting. If you suddenly hear an iron bed, there's a good chance a building stood there at some time, telling you to slow down and dig more. Dig more find more. I understand digging iron sucks but the more you dig the more you find. Just try not to rush through a site, clean it out one section at a time.
@gcodearena3 жыл бұрын
@@MrBottlecapBill Before Equinox I had Fisher f22 and when I bought the nox it didn't feel like an upgrade at all (and it still doesn't). Like I said 6 months ago, the depth is ok but detection on the nox feels really bad. So when I go to diferent fields there is a lot of trash and iron pieces like nails. With the nox I'm unable to get a good signal even if there is no trash and if there is a nice coin in the ground, there is just no way that I get a nice signal, it's always jumpy. And what makes me really angry and disapointed is that when you get really bad and destroyed trash under the coil it will give you a really nice constant signal, nice signal is really bad trash and nice finds are bad signals (so what is up with that?). I come from Europe and here we don't have nice clean fields (because people worked on these fields for centuries so there was just more and more trash). Oh and don't get me started on coins it just doesn't want to detect them if they are not in horizontal position (in vertical position they have to almost tuch the coil if you want to detect them). Also I tested a lot of different detectors, so for example Anfibio Multi in trash conditions on 70% sensitivity is able to detect coins with iron trash around it. All the false signals on anfibio become quiet and there is only coin signal and that is it. I'm not saying that anfibio is perfect but it's defenitly better than nox, it offers way more settings than nox and it costs less. So at the end I honestly regret ever buying that thing.
@MrBottlecapBill3 жыл бұрын
@@gcodearena This is common with all machines. The mistake you`re making is trying to find a perfect signal. In high trash zones you won`t get that on any machine unless the machine is just knocking out way too many targets. That`s why you`ll heave people say they`re digging `the squeekers`. I also run a Makro Kruzer multi(similar to the anifibio) and it digs plenty of iron and trash as well. Kick it into 4 tone 90 sensitivity and you`ll hear everything just like the NOX. It`s all about the settings and getting to know your machine. High gain machines will find you more but they do it by giving you more to dig essentially. If you don`t want to dig more you wont` find more with any machine. These higher end machines are meant to give you more options you can take advantage of. Whether you choose or can take advange of these options is up to you. The more time you spend on any machine the better you`ll be with it. I hated both the nox and kruzer when I first got them lol. I was an expert with my AT pro so I felt like I wasted my money. Now I`d never go back. Kruzer or anfibio in 5khz deep mode with 13`` coil is killer!! Very under rated machines. Probably deeper than the Nox if I`m being honest.
@gcodearena3 жыл бұрын
@@MrBottlecapBill yes Nokta will be better in depth than nox. Like I said I tested a lot of detectors, also mulzi kruzer. But the problem wit the nox is that I am digging every signal just like with other detectors. The problem is that when you have a good target the signals should be good, and with bad targets signal should be bad. But instead it's just the opposite. So you can't know what will you find. Also masking is a big problem that nox has. I mean comon, I wasan't able to get a signal for a nice coin (25mm-1'' diameter) I was getting iron signals and a few times also 1 or 2 on the vdi. The coin was just 2"-5cm under and when I removed it there were some really low iron signal that were not even detected with every swing. At that time I had frequency in multi, iron not discriminated. In air the coin was giving a really nice signal.
