That was an excellent interview. We got some good Dolphins podcasts around (and some crazy social media takes too). Wagner’s explanation of how anticipation extends plays on the front end is brilliant. And his analysis of how MIA can improve the offense thru play design was good too. But I did mention to Chris Koffman a few days ago that leaning on play design is only one aspect. And that another one would be to block better and run inside more often to give Tua an easier option to play fake and roll out for a first down.

"Wagner’s explanation of how anticipation extends plays on the front end is brilliant" Agree... it crystalized some things bouncing around in my head. "But I did mention to Chris Koffman a few days ago that leaning on play design is only one aspect. And that another one would be to block better and run inside more often to give Tua an easier option to play fake and roll out for a first down." This so clear... not sure WHY the difficulty in getting people to see it OR the difficulty in getting it discussed. 10000% Time and blocking are the 1st keys in EVERY OC when they design things... This has been the most bizarre journey in doing this channel is the resistance to the foundational principles of 4 point tensions, LOS out, blocking sets the table, and value of a diverse menu... such a bizarre thing... not sure if it's localized in Miami coverage or universal in NFL coverage... can't figure it out. No debatable... the values needed are to a certain extent... but something I can't put my finger on keeps what was common understanding cloaked. Sports coverage and covering the Dolphins is really, really enigmatic sometimes.

@@AcePerHeadhi Curtis ,I ve been a fan since the 90s, for me to believe in tua , he has to adapt , what’s I mean is to audible the play in the line, reading the defense, and go trough progressions , so he is incomplete and won’t pay him top qb dollars , he is a solid starter , nothing else , Also , don’t like the team building from Grier , y paying two wr !! , we gonna suffer lettting Wilkins and rob hunt go ….

@@dr_jjj9963 Question is though why this scheme? Who does it primarily help? Is it just because Tua can't... or does it help McD with simplicity? Or Grier who can't put a OL together? O don't know... but Tua isn't the only one helped... so, it might not be that Tua can't... but maybe someone else can't... maybe all three... not sure. I am sure Grier can't put together an OL. McD and Tua not so sure. Make sense?

I think Burrow gets the least criticism, considering the weapons, running game, and defense he’s had. There is nothing Burrow can do that Tua can’t. Just my opinion but I hold firm on that 😊

The OL was disastrous and he was asked early to go vertical... so, I think both have had challenges. Burrow stayed in there to get those plays... and paid for it. There are things Tua can do Burrow can't and vice versa... in my eval.

@@VP20001 He might not be the man... but no one has been since Marino and THE man couldn't get it done with a poorly built squad and design. I think inside out and like the Steelers with Odonell you build it right with the right people and eventually the right QB comes... not saying Tua is this or that... but when you post the worst pro set protection grades in 14 years by a long shot on your OL... then you MUSt start there... in my opinion, brother. Then when that's fixed you build out... Herbert and Burrow have found this out as well.

I’m very excited to watch this video as I happened to catch this interview a few days prior & was suspicious of the lack of mention of a weak OL being behind some of Tua’s ability to go through progressions to the 1st & 2nd read. Tbf i didnt watch the full interview as it didnt seem to address this early on, but looking forward to hearing if you mention this & your thoughts 🙂

And i am very pleased to find that what you mention throughout and reveal emphatically from 10:10 was the glaring omission about the OL & protection - i had this feeling they were never gonna touch on it so i just didnt stick with it, despite Kurt being an OG. Seems mad that you’re seeing this brother along with other bright minds, yet many aren’t seeing or addressing it. Keeping bringing the knowledge my man, you’ve really uplifted my learning of the game tremendously.

I'll rethink it... but I've found the bigger channels only want bigger guy to drive their traffic... think I'm a bigger small fish... but not big enough. Tua sees the field pretty good and can pull the trigger fast with confidence. I love his anticipation and accuracy but it is my opinion that tua will not get into the "elite" category until he gets better at pre snap identification against opposing defenses. We seen a few big plays last year off of it but I expect more in year 3 under mcdaniel. Brady and Manning mastered pre snap manipulation and I hope tua can eventually get there. The contingency with mcdaniels offense can help tua get there.

"until he gets better at pre snap identification against opposing defenses." Agree... but you can't really maximize that with all our motions, poor OL play, and lack of interior run threat... he can in some ways... but Manning and Brady got to the LOS with time and had systems that allowed the manipualtion to a much higher degree.. Year 3 do offer us a great window into what we have at sooooo many levels... this is the key year in many key points. CAN'T wait to see what is what, brother!

@AcePerHead I completely agree brother. Tua is not a world class athlete that can improvise off script when protection breaks down like Mahomes and Allen can. I would like to see tua generate more layups and quick hitters through pre snap manipulation to keep us ahead of the sticks so we can avoid those down & distance woes that we seen last year. I get what Mcdaniel was trying to do with the sweeps and screens but at the end of the day it's hard to beat elite defenses (KC, BAL) on that finesse/ speed stuff. We just need to add more clubs to our bag and hopefully tua and mcdaniel will add to the bag in year 3.

ACE why they always coming for Tua. The guy played awesome last year. Tom Brady was the last of elite QB, mahomes holds the ball to long, so does Lamar. So now they want Tua to extend plays, hold ball for what. Last year wasn't Tua fault at all. There has not been one QB that went thru the whole attire season without having a bad game or games. The QB position, besides kicker has the least skill set on the team, but they are the highest paid. Kurt right, the kid can play, but he will never be perfect. Keep it coming ACE....305

Clicks... lack of focus on team generates individual stats to a large degree for the vast amount of NFL players. If he gets hurt, the Dolphins can move on contractually with less backlash from fans and the media will fry him... and narry a word will be said about the OL. Remember last season it was one of the 'best' in history according to some. Sad but true... farther we move from Inside the NFL in coverage preference to 'Young and the Restless' coverage, the easier it is to manipulate the masses... and the NFL and owners and big media love that.
