Thank you for this video! This is some really cool "inside baseball" information and it makes me want to sign up for an ancient dig! ^___^

Thanks for the support! It's never too late, volunteering on digs IS a thing.

Very interesting. I'm a bit too old to volunteer but old enough to lament having missed the opportunity to study History (which includes Prehistory and Archaeology AFAIK).

I would say you're never too old to go on a dig, it's actually quite the popular hobby with retirees (65+) in the UK, volunteer digs tend to run at a much slower pace and can be more accommodating for people with physical limitations. Definitely worth looking into!

@@Inside_Archaeology - I live in continental Europe however (Basque Country to be precise) and never heard of anything like that, I always felt it was meant for students of History or generally youngsters.

Definitely something that can be done by all ages, there is actually a company in the UK, DigVentures, where you can pay to go on one of their digs, archaeological tourism really.

@@Inside_Archaeology - Nah, I'm not gonna pay to work. I also don't have the money.

Nice to know what actually happens at a digital site. What is the atmosphere like when working? Did your colleagues chat while working, or was everyone quiet and not wanting any distraction from the task at hand.
@Inside_Archaeology22 күн бұрын
There's lots of chat to help with the monotony, my field director had a book of '2 minute mysteries' and riddles she'd tell us, and on other sites I've played lots of 'would you rather'. The only thing not allowed was listening to music via headphones for H&S reasons, ie. you wouldn't notice shouting. Atmosphere in general is very convival, and luckily you all have at least two things in common: you love archaeology and you're all suffering through the heat together.
