Digging Storm Sewer- Operator POV

Digging a storm sewer line in bank run type material which is the reason the trench box method was abandoned and switched to sloping. 24" HDPE Pipe with 57 gravel bedding and cover. Excavator is a CAT 336E

Once you get your centre line dig you’re trench from the outside in it’ll slope itself it’ll speed your time

also get a bigger bucket your moving 90% of the material with a trenching bucket. thats fine if your running a trenchbox but you could run a big bucket then drop it off if your backfilling with rock or leave it if your backfilling with dirt will cut your cycles in half

Since this video was filmed we have upgraded and added a 72" bucket to it's arsenal and wow what a difference it makes! Thanks for the insight!

ill never understand why ppl choose to move all that dirt when you can just throw in a 42in wide 20ft long box in and save all that time?

@inevitable178 in this instance the soils were so unstable that the trench would collapse before a box could be placed and we didn't have a 24" bucket for this machine to be able to excavate inside of our box

@@CATfanatic22 nah you can put a box in there and move half the dirt i do it everyday lol.. you were able to get in down to grade and it didnt cave in on you so idk what your talking about lol

@@inevitable178yeah right lol put the box in at the beginning of the trench and pull it along as you dig. Easy peasy. Saves a lot of digging and is safer

@@CATfanatic22 great attitude 👍 and folks just come to criticize, we all have room to improve.awesome job. Me personally I take a nice scratch from both sides, and then keep scratching with one or two teeth,from edge of trench working my way down to the bottom of the trench.
