Nice to see the process from your end Mike, understanding levels of soils is a science in itself. Have been watching Matt's videos around the quote process, which have been both interesting and informative. From our prospective, it's nice to see you carry out the work that Matt has already done the quote for. Hopefully you'll get the 1st one, even with a revised quote, looking forward to see the 2nd when you start it. That rock feature will look really nice, if it works out.

Same ground conditions here in IL shallow bed rock. Some difficult sites we've had to drill explode the lime stone or sand stone bed rock to get a deeper. Than muck it out make the bowl smooth enough than pack it in with vermiculite (like an in ground pool foundations) sometimes gunite cover with a membrane and 2 feet of clay. Their as much if not more a headache than an in ground pool.

Now, this was a really nice post Christmas day video to watch while I'm eating my lunch. I learned a lot about how you go about deciding if you're going to take a job and some about how you bid it. In the past your and Matt both gave some info on that. Most of this morning was spent taking care of my sick teeny tiny Bebita Wife Maria. She's sleeping so I got some free time to watch. I sure hope you get the other pond as well. Your pond builds are my favorites Mike, Matt and Jerry.

Good jobs start with good prep, good prep comes from due diligence. Time and fuel and transport costs to bid a job that a customer possibly does not understand, has a mistaken "understanding" of what they want...(despite Matt's best effort to explain) leaves me impressed at " 1marginal and the rest happy, happy pond owners". Good job fellows, keep the fun stuff coming.

I wish you could build in my area. You got red clay as deep as you want. In a few places, some sandstone. Most ponds are built with a dozer because of so much clay. Most never even make a core trench. Just strip topsoil and start pushing the dam in place. It makes it harder to install sewer, but it's great for ponds. Spring is coming. I can't wait for the build.

Mike interesting how you check to see what the soil is made of I thought it would be done by core sampling ,I've noticed here in South Australia some dams/ponds are lined with a neoprene liner I guess because the soil doesn't have enough clay in it to seal against leakage .look forward to the construction work to come Cheers Kym Adelaide

Always interested to see how you put a job together and be honest with the customer. I'm sure you have had to give a potential customer bad news over the years but as you said you want the customer to be happy in the end. Hard to believe that others don't take the time to due the work before a bid to make sure your in the ballpark with your numbers. Happy New Year to all of you.

Mike that is a very helpful video for somebody thinking about a pond build. Not what most people think of. they know they just want a pond in a certain area. And not alway can a water holding pond go in that area. for sure in my area which is alot like southern Indiana. For what i seen there last summer when i was there.

Wonder if a seismograph would help any on your initial surveys. Probably wouldn't be too helpful for determining good/bad dirt but, may help giving a detailed picture of rock layer depth or other obstructions. 🤷‍♂

Missouri! had a bunch of watersheds built by the federal government and you’d be surprised amount of surveying and test holes that were Dug. I was a recipient of one of them Six or 7 acres. I actually had to move it more on me and less on the neighbor. This is back in the 80s and 90s starting actually in the 70s.
