they are so intelligent. to be able to not only make the tunnel, but the trap door, and to know how to use it, and then to be able to make it an escape route wow

The Trapdoor Spiders are very fascinating. Excellent builders too. Wow! Smart Spiders🥰 I caught a Garden Spider. My first Spider. I know it's nothing compared to these Spiders, Tarantulas or other Spiders but I wanted to get an idea about caring for a Spider. I enjoy watching his behaviors. He's webbing. His first meal item too! From small Spider to a Tarantula this coming New Year. I'm quite excited! Thanks again for sharing. You offer so much education and great explanations. 🕷

why so reluctant to bite? cool guys.

Though I am unsure why, they have a tranquility period for a couple hours after they are exposed. After this, they become agitated from even the slightest vibrations. I do not currently have an explanation for this phenomenon.

We used to find these on the slightly hilly side of our backyard in Los Angeles. Since the burrow was perfectly round and straight when we dug it out my bro suggested that there may have at some point been a pipe in it's place. We would always be very scared of these are they deadly?

I suspect that the ones you found were California Trapdoor Spiders (Bothriocyrtum californicum). They are quite common in the LA Basin. They are not deadly, but do have a painful bite.

@@GeneralApathy yes! It is, I googled it and it looks exactly the same as the ones me and my brother would digg up. I haven't seen any of those out here in Arizona. Just desert tarantulas, wolf spiders, and giant crab (huntsman) spiders. Dangerous critters!

@@angelozicarelli541 If you are referring to Olios giganteus, they have very mild venom. Nothing to be wary of. Arizona has several species of trapdoor spiders, but they are all generally uncommon.
