This is very well done. I got soooooo much more information that I'd never heard before about the burials at St. Peter Ad Vincula! I've only heard the stories of how they counted her bones and then they just assumed because the skeleton had a "lyttle" neck that it had to be Anne. But I never knew someone was buried there with her in the in the 1700's! Thank you for all the new information, and I hope one day they will get to study the area in the future. I'd love for them to definitively say they found her bones and do a facial reconstruction on her. She's one that so many would love to know what her true face looked like. I highly doubt that it will ever happen, but she'll still always be one of the world's favorite Queens. Thanks again for this. You did an awesome job!!

I think a facial reconstruction of the skulls is the only way we'll have an idea as to who and what these people looked like. Unfortunately the present queen won't allow any disinterment. Thanks Michelle 😊

Thanks for this Jon 👍👏🙏 Appreciate all the work you put into this video to tell the story. Can never get enough of Anne Boleyn. The location of her final resting place is certainly a very interesting and thought provoking topic. I was impressed with how much you managed to cover in a short pace of time. It's doubtful Anne's body was removed without detection so I do hope it stayed where it was. For a long time I had hoped Anne's remains would be reburied at Westminster Abbey near her daughter Elizabeth but now I think it's probably best she remains at the Tower of London as she is part of it's history and also the fact that the chapel of St Peter ad Vincula is quite a peaceful place despite it's bloody past compared with the noisy Westminster Abbey. If it wasn't for Queen Victoria, we may not have a final resting place to visit it at all. It was good of her and Victorians for being so respectful of history and those who came before them. 👸⚔️🌹

Henry forced an annulment of his marriage to Anne before he executed her for adultery. No one ever seems to pick up on the fact that, if his marriage to Anne had been null from the beginning (which is what annulment means), then, by definition, she could not have been adulterous.

I've said before, that Anne was a pawn in men's games. Did she fool around? No one can say definitively. In all of my reading I have noticed that many believe her crimes and others, not. I believe that given Henry's overall behavior/paranoia that is seen in his heirs as well. He believed the gossip and vitriol aimed at her. Had she given him a male, she would never had been killed.
@HistoryRoadshow2 жыл бұрын
The problem I found when researching the video, is that it gives little in the way of answers to our most telling questions. It does however leave much open to interpretation. Thanks Winfred 😊
@TheConman7612 жыл бұрын
She wasn’t a pawn. Her father and family didn’t pimp her out. It was actually the opposite. Her father didn’t want the match in the beginning as mistresses normally didn’t marry high once the king was done with them. Also the duke of Norfolk didn’t like Anne.

It's amazing that you got so much of the really important points and information into just over 17 minutes but the video didn't seem rushed or lacking in any way. What I really appreciated is that you covered many of the possibilities but emphasised that whilst you tend to get very strong opinions now stated as fact in the pro-/anti-Anne and pro-/anti-Cromwell camps, the Tudors were notorious for rewriting history and we may well never know the full story here. My personal opinion is that Anne Boleyn was not guilty of the charges brought against her in court but that she inadvertently allowed Henry and his ministers the opportunity to make these charges stick by failing to moderate her intelligence, quick (often sharp) wit and, perhaps, her flirtatiousness once she became queen - especially after Katherine of Aragon's death when Henry no longer had 'something to prove' by continuing with the marriage. I do not believe that these characteristics are negative traits per se but they were not considered 'proper' for a woman, or a queen, at the time - despite being the very thing that seems to have attracted Henry to her in the first place. I think the strength of her commitment to religious reform is debatable but it is perhaps rather more clear that Henry VIII was never fully committed to the full-scale church reforms being demanded by radical Protestants at the time. Yes, he liked being head of the Church of England, and the revenue that came from dissolving the monastic houses, but he wasn't a radical by any means and I think that once his marriage to Anne began to go awry - and she failed to give him a son - his relatively lukewarm attitude to reform became a case of very cold feet. As regards Cromwell's involvement, I feel that whether or not his relationship with Anne and the wider Boleyn family had soured by the time that Henry began to actively seek to end the marriage, he was quite literally in a life or death situation and had to choose between discarding Anne or staying on the right side of the king. Of course, he had a choice and could have chosen to make a stand against the court machinations designed to bring down Anne but I think he saw himself as a survivor rather than a martyr. As it happened, he really only delayed his perhaps inevitable downfall and although I'm not excusing the choices he made, there is an argument that he may well have tempered some of the king's vindictiveness, albeit for reasons that were hardly altruistic. Indeed, having researched a great number of sources regarding the charges brought against Anne, there is some suggestion that the king variously wanted to level charges of witchcraft - i.e. that Anne had seduced him with spells - and that he also wanted to raise the issue of Anne's purported betrothal to Henry Percy and his own relationship with her sister Mary. But this became rather dangerous ground because if there was any suggestion that the marriage was invalid in the first place, then she couldn't have been guilty of adultery and there is still some argument about whether Thomas Cranmer declaring the marriage null and void a few days after Anne's execution was legitimate. Sadly, I think anyone who displeased Henry VIII would be at best discarded and at worst pay with their lives and whilst it is useful to look back on his behaviour through the lens of modern medicine and psychology to some degree - i.e. to consider that his personality may have changed due to a brain injury and/or other medical issues - he was essentially a tyrant in a time when tyrants - and sometimes those who facilitated and enabled them - prospered.

Jon, what a great video and appreciate the work you do in presenting this information. We may never know Anne’s full story but she is a character that has intrigued me for a while. It would seem from what I have read that she was a nice person and very witty but alas things just did not go in her favor. I have been to London before but alas only got to drive by the Tower of London and not visited it. I stayed in a flat not too far away from it actually and could see it at night. I hope to visit the Tower on my next visit and pay my respects at Anne’s grave. I would love to see a facial reconstruction from her skull one day, it may yet be possible that her remains could be conclusively identified. I like the theory that her remains are under Lady Rochfords’. Very well done sir as always!

Henry VIII ended up with the buyer's remorse mentality with Anne Boleyn once she didn't produce a male heir that he desperately longed for. What he liked about her personality while courting her is not what he liked about her as his Queen. Yet I still believe Anne Boleyn was framed and railroaded from the intrigue and gossip of Henry's court which she wasn't popular amongst on the contrary of her predecessor Catherine of Aragon.

The Tudors tv series peaked my interest in the life Anne Boleyn may God rest her soul for she died a barbaric, brutal and gruesome death at the hands of a narcissistic king. That fall off the horse must've really screwed with his head big time, which reflected later in his behavior towards Ann Boleyn and his treatment of her.

@patriciafenwick58462 жыл бұрын
Why was she executed? Because se failed to give him a son. However, a divorce/annulment would not have been acceptable since he had already "divorced". Some other means had to be found. I think I read somewhere a while back that adultery was not considered treason until Tudor times. Check out the French kings Louis X(1314-16) and his brother Philip V (1316-1322) when their wives were found guilty of adultery; they were shut up in nunneries. I don't think either was king at the time of the trials (which I think took place before their father Philip IV died), but both wives could have foisted a bastard in the line of succession, so I guess it was just as serious as Anne's alleged adultery. But thanks for a really interesting video, especially the part about who is buried in the chapel.
