Strange that SONY didn't bring this BehemothStation to market to crush the competition from SEGA and NINTENDO! So much power!

2:16 I played a lot of Elevator Action on the NES clones, it was part of my gaming childhood, an iconic game for those who played it, it's also worth checking out Elevator Action Returns S-Tribute re-released a few years ago for recent platforms, a very cool game.

This video made me think of what became of Taito. I haven't heard about them in a long time. I looked it up and apparently Square-Enix bought them nearly 20 years ago. No surprise that Square has done nothing of note with them. They really seem ill-equipped to properly manage their acquisitions.
@robbyrobot330310 ай бұрын
It is sad. They mostly just have them run the arcades in Japan. The only new console games seem to be the occasional puzzle bobble or retro collection that they don't even publish themselves in the west.

@@robbyrobot3303 You gotta wonder why Square bought the company when they proceeded to do nothing with them.
@robbyrobot330310 ай бұрын
@@fattiger6957 they did push a bunch of final fantasy games into the arcades shortly after the acquisition, so maybe that was why, to advertise for the home titles. Tho sadly it seems to have coincided with a large downsizing of Taito talent because their output has dropped dramatically Tho I have to admit I am a huge fan of the Final Fantasy Theatrhythm games which started as arcade titles and were likely a result of acquisition so it's not all bad.

Another fun trip into the past, even not as a bullet hell person a lot of these look fun. Seeing them using that type of card seemed strange thinking about swappable arcade media overall, but it makes sense as those things were being produced by the truckload for a lot of things at the time.

Which thankfully opened the door for modders to create a bios you can install to allow the use off the shelf CF card in an adapter. They have even hacked a bunch of Taito FX and Tecmo ZN games to be loaded from CF on the G-Net, which also were based on the PlayStation architecture

The Taito G-Net system was released in 1998 and is based on Sony PlayStation hardware. It is a cartridge-based system that uses PCMCIA II cards for games. It is contemporary with Sega's NAOMI and Taito tried to get developers to switch to the G-Net platform instead of NAOMI.

Chaos Heat is an incredible game. I have played it many times. Also, their is Chaos Heat that came out on the Playstation 1. It plays like Resident Evil. Both versions of Chaos Heat are great if anyone has never tried. Lady Decade needs to sell a line of t shirts. 😀

I remember the PSX, if only because some people apparently referred to the original Playstation as such in the early 2000s, and the gaming magazines I was reading at the time were constantly correcting people who did that when writing in.

So it's not a console, it's an arcade bard that uses the same hardware as the PSX. Most of the games were available on PSX in the stores.
@robbyrobot330310 ай бұрын
Very similar but not the same. It was more powerful than a PS1. Raycrisis on the G-Net had two player simultaneous play that had to be dropped on the ps1
@MarcBarkyMarta10 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say most. A handful were available for PS1 (sometimes a bit compromised), like RayCrisis, RC de Go & Night Raid. Others made their way to PS2, like Space Invaders Anniversary, Shikigami, Psyvariar Medium/Revision, & XII Stag. A bunch of others never went anywhere, like Chaos Heat, Super Puzzle Bobble (not the same as PS2 version) & Zooo. G-NET was a great PCB/arcade system for cheaper games when it launched at the dawn of the new millenium.

There's an awesome mod for the gnet that allows you to use off the shelf CF memory cards with an pcmcia adapter. Its an awesome board for shmups. it's cheaper to play them on original arcade hardware than shell out for the ps1 ports

@robbyrobot330310 ай бұрын
@@greenkoopa the game cards for the G-net are fancy compact flash memory cards. You can write or buy an eprom with a modified bios, insert onto the motherboard, then it will accept compact flash cards you image yourself of the g-net library. Some other arcade games based on PS1 architecture like G-Darius also have been cracked to run on this board.

@robbyrobot3303 How about the Ray series? I dream of having my own Raystorm cab. Recently had to sell my PS1 CD for that game. Only have the awful PC port at the moment.
@robbyrobot330310 ай бұрын
@@LatitudeSky until just now I thought Raystorm was a G-Net game. I didn't realize that it was an FX-1B game like G-Darius. The motherboard to the FX-1B is almost the same as the G-Net, as both are based on the PlayStation. But yeah, it can be run on the G-Net with the modbios like G-Darius and the other FX-1B games. And Raycrisis is an actual G-Net game so that will work as well

How is an arcade motherboard a "system" am I missing something or is just a clickbait title?
@LadyDecade10 ай бұрын
An arcade system typically refers to a collection of hardware components and software designed specifically for playing video games in an arcade setting. Arcade systems can vary greatly in complexity and capabilities, ranging from older systems like those found in classic arcade cabinets from the 1970s and 1980s, which often used custom-built hardware tailored to individual games, to more modern systems that utilize off-the-shelf computer components and digital distribution platforms. Arcade systems are distinct from home video game consoles in that they are typically designed for public use in commercial settings like arcades, amusement parks, restaurants, and bars. They often feature a wide variety of games, catering to different tastes and demographics, and can provide a social gaming experience where players can compete against each other or cooperate in multiplayer games.
