Thx for the tips, I fall under #1 having lots of music, and not really knowing it, hearing it from you has made me have a rethink. I think to myself I must have it, or I'm missing out, thx once more.

I'm a hardcore introvert in pretty much every setting\environment - *except* when I was DJ'ing. My love of music, and seeing the crowd loving my set, is what bought me out of myself when I used to DJ. I fed off *their* enjoyment. Then, once my set was over, I'd have a little (non alcoholic) drink, and quietly slip away.

The tips about either taking too much request or not taking any requests was very helpful for me. Also intentions and seeing if they dance at all were also really important ones.

I fall for the same mistake. Falling down the deep hole of getting more and more music. Back in the day of vinyl I couldn't get new records so easy, now it's dig deep in to different types of house for a week or 2 then changing

If ur DJing with a residency and playing long sets a big mistake would be playing all the high energy songs to early and then having nothing to play later in the evening

Definitely a good point Jimmy!

Great vid. Two of these tips can work really well when practiced together - crowd interaction and taking requests. It's not something to do every time or even very often, but at those high energy parties, like New Years Eve when everybody is in a great mood, giving a shout out to the dance floor to give you requests (and generally only take them from people on the floor) is a great way to build the energy higher and it gives you a great feeling of success too from the feedback. Hearing a bunch of blokes scream and jump around when S Club 7 request comes on is an unusual delight. As you say, you're more often than not going to get some great ideas that are going to work well when taking dance floor requests, just make sure you've got something to quickly jot down the tracks on and make sure you understand how your crowd will react. A request coming from the girl dancing by herself at the edge of the floor is maybe not going to go so well, but keep an eye on her, if she has lots of mates coming up and hanging around, it could work to get them on as well. That could be another rookie mistake, only watching those in front of you and not paying attention the crowd hanging around waiting to dance - the tappers, snappers and clappers. What taught me this was doing a gig for predominantly 30-40 y/oish Aussies. It was going really well - I'd been playing the usual party tracks of their age and some good Aussie tracks especially - when one (it was a bloke) asked for the Baywatch theme... After shaking my head and saying the usual, he said 'we were all at uni together and used to watch this religiously every week'. I played it. Absolute banger! Energy went off the scale. Sometimes the client knows best :-D Keep up the great work.

howabout playing a different mix of the request? catch the requesters off guard?
@digitaldjtips3 жыл бұрын
That's a risky one, sometime it works great because they just want to hear the vocal and sing along, other times not so much! haha

@@digitaldjtips true - but it's fun when they realise it is what they requested - sort of ;)

maybe overcompensating for the nervousness and inexperience by approaching live sets in front of crowds from too much left brain problem solving/professiionalism/leaning on materialistic matters that are not djing.seems like a lot of people getting behind the decks had this ego that they are more than they are but they aren't authentic creatives or artists, they just copy another djs track list or stay in the territory of only what is already being done. they aren't expressing themselves through sound, they don't know flow state, they don't have any gift of intuition utilizing. when in this state humans become the opposite of professional.

examples like the only thing that person can do so well is djing. have no concern about time or new DJ gear or ability to talk even.
