Unfortunately there still are problems with controllers and steering wheels. It is better than in FH 3 where I had to use Xbox 360 controller emulator, but here my steering wheel has very wrong outer deadzone set, so moving wheel by 2cm is already max turn in game. It also doesn't support any external dials or TrackIr like other racing games do.

Here's results with a "potato" PC: GTX 670 + Phenom II X6 1100T @ 3.3Ghz (six physical cores) 16Gb Ram ddr3 1866 Everything set to LOW: 10-28 fps The game seems to absolutely choke on 2gb vram. or at least i guess that's my bottleneck. it's 4x more demanding than FF XV, which my pc can confortably run at 60fps on low preset or 30-40fps at medium preset.

Dang, despite you having a way better CPU and double the ram, my laptop out performs your PC. I have an i7-6500U, which is a dreadful dual core CPU. Along with a GTX 960m, I was shocked that I could run this with the medium Setting at 720p, with 35-50 fps, or at low 1080p with 28-40 fps. I'm legitimately amazed, I thought I had no hope in running this.

I have the same ram and cpu but use a 1050ti 4gb and can urn ultra and hit 45 to mid 50s for fps so if you get like a 1650s gpu you would be golden.

Good analysis, Alex. You even covered Ultrawide! One thing you missed was HDR support. I am happy to report that it is indeed supported on PC. If the demo is any indication, than this is indeed a great port. I was playing at a locked 60 FPS with the ultra preset at 4K60. What blew my mind was that the game supports HDR and Dolby Atmos on PC as well! So if you have a sick home theater pc setup, Forza Horizon 4 is gaming bliss! I am torn! I have been hovering over the buy button because I want to support fantastic PC ports like this. But, at the same time, I don’t want to support this horrible DLC VIP strategy that gives progression advantages to people who spend more money on the game. Coming off of games like Spider-Man, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and God of War, this just seems dirty. Damn you MICROSOFT!

Just get Xbox game pass, where it's $9.99 a month. With that you play Forza Horizon 4 with game pass, and game pass carries over to PC.. You are still supporting Playground games because Microsoft owns them..

You can trun Chromatic Aberration off, it's just in the diiferent menu so you can turn it off on console too, I'd presume. Also there's been a lot of people noticing the awful LODs regardless of their setting, so it sure is that bugged static geometry setting. I really hope it gets fixed soon along with the Anisotropic Filtering.

This video is a perfect explanation why I play on Xbox One X. I get a set of settings that are already tuned to my exact hardware, with a couple major options (mainly 4k/30 or 2k/60) I can choose between. No crashes, and no needing to figure out what all these crazy options are and which ones I need to compromise on to get a good framerate versus good visuals. Yes, I don't get 60fps at 4k. But, in the end, I just don't care. It looks amazing and feels buttery smooth. I suspect the majority of people would agree. For the remaining people who want to put more work into it, I'm very happy there is a PC option that gives you all these settings to tweak. I certainly don't have any resentment or competition with PC players... other than that many of them seem to think everyone should be playing on PC because "it's the bestest" and can get higher framerates. I'm just stating that in my opinion and for myself, none of this is worth it when I can just fire up the X on my 60" TV and have a great experience nearly instantly with 90+% of the quality. THAT's the appeal of the X, or even the One for many people.

Alex, I appreciate this video so much. Thanks for the trouble you've went to finding out the impact of each setting. That was a ton of work, and all very well told and presented. Watched the whole thing. I've personally got a Ryzen 1700x and 1080 Ti so I am a little concerned about that systematic down tic you found in the benchmarks, however my target is 4k60, so thankfully it shouldn't impact me, and as you say, hopefully it's patched anyway. I also have several friends with RX480/580 cards who will appreciate the breakdown of the settings, I'm going to send them the link to the video. Thanks again.

Now that this game is going to be delisted, I picked it up and all the DLC just recently and I'm so glad Alex has a video on PC settings. :) I think a few of the issues did get fixed, as I haven't had crashing issues after changing settings and given a prompt to restart. I've actually been using my ASUS tablet system with an RTX 3050 in it, and upon starting the game's benchmark on my first load of the game it got over 100 fps. I was blown away. This gives me a lot of wiggle room to play with settings to have fun and make adjustments while keeping steady high level performance. I also greatly appreciate world streaming as it doesn't produce massive stuttering issues that so many modern open world games seem to struggle with. I wish this wasn't an issue so many games have, but it's likely the studios' approach to world building in modern titles.

FYI. Override and max anti aliasing from Nvidia control panel (manage 3d settings by program) then use ultra dynamic so that what's being adjusted is never the AA at 1440 and 4k. The game looks like perfection after that specifically. Developers sometimes kind of mangle the resources req'd for their version of aliasing. Can you make considerations for this in other videos?

actually the consoles are running dynamic settings which means they change constantly to maintain smoothness and graphical niceness...........but my gtx 980 ti played FH3 at 1440p full ultra with around 80fps avg, so there is no was in sam fuck MS would be nuts enough to pair a 300$ USD used gpu today in 2018 with a 10 year old low end low power tablet processor that would be like pairing titan Xp's with a 1st gen i3 2100................. the REAL xb1x hardware is that low power tablet processor at 1.8ghz in the stock xb1/ps4 and 2.23ghz in the xb1x/ps4pro + an rx 480 equivalent in the xb1x which isn't a match for a gtx 980 ti but dynamic settings means it can run the illusion of higher settings with janky low ass power

Can’t have Xbox winning anything X1X Screen reflections look like either Extreme or Ultra he can’t tell a difference. Sucks that the Xbox One X can't even do 1080p 60fps on many games with settings similar to PC's Ultra. There _has_ to be graphical compromises and the sacrificing of many gorgeous visual details. Its extremely weak CPU is a massive bottleneck. However, a PC with an RX 580 + i5 8500 can easily do 1080p at a locked 75 fps on ultra.

I have the Ultimate Edition of this game. I have a i5-8400, GTX 1060 6gb and 16 GB DDR4 RAM (2666Mhz). I can't even get close to a stable 60fps on Ultra especially in Edinburgh. Even at high, the game struggles to keep at 60fps, even on wide open country roads. I have no idea what's going on, but I'm reinstalling the demo to compare as I'm sure I was getting way better performance in the demo when I played through it a week ago.

Great port, only complaint are the hitches during transitions after races to the end of race area (the white room with large display) and between seasons, these were smoother on xbox

Great Guide Alex, but i do have 1 main criticism. Explanation of each setting is great, and pointing out those bugs / oversights is super valuable for devs hopefully too, but just simply concluding on each option that the highest setting is best/recommended is a moot point. Those with the power to do so will just run Ultra anyway. Those who would get the most use out of this kind of video are here to find out where we can save most efficiently on systems that can't hit 60. In Future vids If possible I'd like to see you focus more on highlighting the best places to save frames, and/or places to save without ruining visual candy. Hope this is fair comment, keep up the good work.

theyre there for the pc because of different hardware being used by different users - saves devs going over every possible hardware variation and making a preset. X hardware is the same for everyone, therefore doesnt need sliders. itll be the same performance.

Are you guys planning on discussing more HDR features in PC games as they become more prevalent? I found the HDR controls in this game very straight forward and useful compared to other games with just one slider and arbitrary number units. It has one slider for the number of nits your monitor can produce, and one for "brightness" which i assume is gamma, though, it seemed I got best results leaving that at 50 instead of trying to match the the instructions for making "1" barely visible. Anything higher than 50 tended to wash out the image and dull the colors.

About dynamic quality presents: usually the idea is to lower quality dynamically if gpu or cpu is struggling and is nearing 100% load. But in your case gpu load was about 60% so that is probably why dynamic preset was matching corresponding fixed preset! But anyway, great video as usual!

I was under that same impression too, but then I tried it out at 1440p and 4k as well, where I *thought* it would then lower the settings there to (since it would be 100% GPU utilisation). But it was the exact same metrics vs. static ultra. Or how exactly does the setting work? Do you have to put it to lower (low, medium, high) etc. for it to actually scale? Best, Alex

@@Dictator93 hm, then I may be wrong and it may indeed work the other way around! So it may be that dynamic preset defines not the upper target for the quality but rather it's lower limit (how low quality may drop) and if there are still resources to spare then quality will dynamically go as high as possible (or within some range). But I will be able to check it myself only tomorrow after the game will unlock for me.. :)
