You would want to be in a very good signal area very close to a transmitter for this to be of any use, and you can buy this sort of thing ready made very cheaply. At best, you will only receive free to air channels anyway, unlike the title of this video suggests. I am a professional installer for over 40 years. A nice little hobby though if you have plenty of time on your hands.

The difference between a digital and an analog TV antenna is the name and price! An antenna is a mass of metal up in the air for receiving radio and video signals. Some antennas are also used to transmit those same signals. Again, a digital and an analog antenna are the same things!

My dad almost bought into this marketing propaganda. During the digital switchover he wanted to replace the 1990s ChannelMaster antenna on their roof with a plastic one from Walmart, because he thought the old one wouldn't pick up digital stations. I proved him wrong by just replacing the coaxial cable and the 75 ohm balun. Saved him about 40 bucks.

My curiousicy came. I tried using regular vhf uhf rabbit analog antennas, those also work as digital antennas.

A simple UHF di-pole would be easier to make and not incur the 3 to 4 db loss the splitter introduces. (3 db is half the signal)

It is even worser than you thinks it is. The device is not a splitter with 3 a 4dB loss, it is a filter, one side 40 till 860 Mhz and the other port 900 till 2450 Mhz, this is the Satellite area. The satellite transmitters are 38000 kilometers away. In a geostationaire orbit. Chance to pick up these signals is ZERO. The coils between the wires are a laugh, they blocking every signal from 470 till 2450 Mhz and that's the DTV band. So the conclusion is that the only part that generates signal is the TV port. Every coax cable with a 12,5 cm stripped inner core will do the same and even better.

When you do not know the theory, you believe that coils give amplifying. They don't. Straighten coils to a "U" form wire and you get the same working antenna.

There is no such thing as a "digital" antenna. Antennas don't care if the signal is analog or digital. They all work the same.

An antena is an antena, any antena can catch digital signal but you need a decoder to see the data. Most new television have this by default, but you can only catch "free channels". Or that what I read on the internet. I would have to test it.

Just strip down cable exposing copper wire about 1 or 2 metre,,then twist it round something to make copper into more manageable spring shape. Connect other end to TV and move copper end about to find signal. I found old plastic box of a communication antenna in my roof space,,took out old components and put copper spring inside plastic box,, looks acceptable.

The push for digital tv was two fold, first analog TV's were becoming antique and all TV's in the future would be digital, the people who didn't want to buy a new tv xould buy an digital to analog converter box and get even more channels, the entity at the top of that food chain made a grip of cash at $50 each for the DA box. After telling my cable company to fuck off when my wife asked me for 200 dollars to pay rhe cable bill i was pissed, i had a contract with that company for basic cable and internet at $35 dollars a month for life, i had no idea that my wife had been paying $200 dollars a month for the past two years, the only reason i found out about the increase was because in that two year time my wife was short of money, the cable company did not want to honor my contract or reimburse me for the oversight, so fuck off they did, nobody should pay that much for internet and basic cable, our government has left the building to cash their fat checks and will not return, fuck them too for not regulating these crooks.

It will work with encrypted and non-encrpyted. Your TV or other device is what needs to be able to decrypt the encrypted channels.

I'm sure they can show video proving it "works" -- if you are near enough to the TV stations, you can hook *just* the coaxial cable up with no antenna at all and have it "work". That said -- I would say it's snake oilish... 1) There's no such thing as a "digital antenna", it's an antenna. 2) "Most powerful?" There's no way around the laws of physics, if you want an antenna with high range it's going to have to be a lot bigger than that! If you live in the middle of a city with many local stations this may work fine, otherwise it honestly won't.
