This particular video is about how to find the transfer function of a mass-spring-damper system. This is is an extremely important mechanical control system. This is one of the fundamental transfer function exercises which everyone needs to understand in order to derive the transfer function of more complex systems. Mass, spring and dampers are basic components of almost every mechanical systems. This video is for graduate students who are taking a control system course. In this video, the instructor Dr Tahir Yaqub derives the transfer function of a control system that has a mass and spring and damper are attached to that mass.
The full course on control systems engineering of which this video is a part is for students of graduate and postgraduate level who are taking control systems as one of their subjects, or for someone who wants to pursue their career in electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, mechanical engineering or telecommunication engineering.

Could you do example with initial conditions, a car is fixed by spring on left hand side and damper on right hand side with intial conditions.

What if same damper is placed at 90 degree to the spring at y axis direction. Is that the first derivative will be zero?

I don't get it. As far as I understand, the equation of motion should be K*x(t) + fv*dx/dt + f(t) = M*dx^2/dt^2 That would lead to a transfer function TF = 1/ (-M*s^2 + fv*s + K)

In the mean time I understand through following the example with XCOS in the course about Scilab. In my equation the constants K and fv are negative, while in the video they are assumed positive.
