Baylor University library staffer Hannah Engstrom talks about the digitization process for the thousands of vinyl records that are being preserved digitally at the Black Gospel Archive.
The archive recently received a $2.48 million Lilly Endowment Inc. grant that will fund part of the archive's growth, from a larger dedicated space in Baylor's Moody Memorial Library to a four-city concert series and a traveling exhibit drawn from the archive.
The changes should spell increased access for scholars interested in research, Baylor faculty teaching their classes and community members simply wanting to listen.
The expansion will only elevate Baylor as a national hub of Black gospel music and church studies, observed Jeffry Archer, Baylor's dean of university libraries, museums and the press.
