I love it! I had a more mature white pomegranate I inherited when I purchased a property. It took a couple seasons of pruning and upkeep to get it to tree for, but it was so worth it! One of my favorite trees. ❤
@Pipscape17 күн бұрын
Lol! This is far from a mature tree. My 13 YO neglected Pom tree produced 754+ pomegranates this year! I gave hundreds of them away until people said, no more please, and I still put 11 gallons of juice in my own freezer! Crazy tree! Poms do best with 3-5 main branches. You can remove all the suckers or cycle them by removing the oldest one each year and letting a newer shoot take over for the removed one each year. You can prune a baby plant for a single trunk upright tree, but then every single sucker gets pruned each year. Another tip is that in our zone, established Poms don't actually need summer water. We capped the irrigation on ours several years ago and the tree has never been happier. Good luck with the pruners! They seem to have run away with you. Lol! 😆

Hubby just got me 3-in-1 oil to use on my pruners after each alcohol cleaning. Ordered a Parfianka Russian Pomegranate. Also watched lots of videos so I could learn how to trim my olive tree. Similar to pruning a rose bush! Looks amazing. The videos did mention never to prune more than 25% at any one time. Thanks to you I got those automatic pruners. Love them!!!! They are saving my hand and wrist, but I have to admit, I do not talk to anyone when I am using them. It requires 110% concentration. I actually like the more inset trunk, and would remove the other one closer to the walkway (but that is what "I" would do), but you should always do what you like with your tree 🙂

I often have to remind myself to "step away and put down the pruners!"😅

I was #teampomegranate and I can't wait to see what this looks like moving forward. Pomegranate trees are extremely resilient and I trust that it will be more than fine. It will be interesting to see how the little pomegranate responds to this pruning. Since this was a fairly hard prune, there will most probably be a lot of suckers. Maybe bring out the Sucker Punch for those suckers that will form as a result?
Take the second stake on the second truck and lean in the opposite direction. Otherwise I think it looks so much better.

When do you prune a tree that holds onto its leaves? I'm in zone 7a/7b and I have a Japanese maples that needs to be pruned. (We moved into a house that has one that has always been pruned, but was neglected for about a year or two bc of the previous owner's situation.) It won't be super heavy pruning - just reshaping a little and probably skirting the tree a little.
@oxwoman817 күн бұрын
@@margarettsefitting892 like Miss Janie said, it's best to prune trees when they're dormant (lost their leaves). Though Japanese maples can be pruned any time. There is a great channel here on KZbin that gives detailed instructions on how to prune them: "Asian Pacific Garden". It's pretty radical but Robert shows the proper way. It's time consuming, but every one he does turns out so beautiful in my opinion.
@margarettsefitting89217 күн бұрын
@oxwoman8 thanks! I'll take a look into that. Unfortunately, this maple will hold onto its leaves until spring so it's unclear to me when it's dormant. But I'll look into your recommendation. Maybe he covers timing. Thanks!
@oxwoman817 күн бұрын
@margarettsefitting892 I have one that holds onto its leaves, too. They're kinda crunchy so it's definitely dormant. I'm in North Carolina 8a and we've had several below 30° nights so I know it's having its winter nap. Asian Pacific Garden has quite a few videos on pruning Japanese maples, they're all great.

Two of my neighbors directly across the street each have pomegranate trees. One is always drastically trimmed by their gardeners every other week and kept in a ball shape. The other is trimmed by my neighbor herself and kept in a beautiful natural tree shape. Come fall her tree always has spectacular display of yellow leaves and bright red flowers. My neighbor once told me she does not allow her gardeners to trim her tree. Trimming it too often removes the flowers from which the fruit will appear. As a result, she said that her tree will not only look better but it will always be more productive. Fortunately for me, it’s her tree that is directly across the street and in full view of my window seat. You just gotta love a good borrowed view 😍 Good job trimming BTW, my neighbor would be proud 😁
