Whenever I come across farming, it takes me down memory lane. Losing my farm to the hurricane Florence on September 2018 here in North Carolina dealth a huge jab. But with an influx of $45K monthly made my family happy one more time

The garden is overflowing Janey, love the pomegranates, yummy! Have you ever thought that your property size is difficult to manage? You have so much going on and your family to care for as well as the pets, make sure to take time to relax in your hot tub and just enjoy life as it passes so quickly.

Good morning Janey, you may want to talk to Robbie as he found something to deal successfully with his mole/gofer problem. Regarding pomegranates, I usually buy them and they are so expensive, but I freeze them and make a salad during Christmas (tomato and mint so good) but I’m sure you can juice them too. I serve them on a bowl for my guest to add to their cocktails 🍸 and my kids add them to their ginger ale 😊 for a “fancy” drink. The chickens look like they’ve gotten bigger!

I'm jealous of her pomegranate because we also buy them for holiday treats. Salads and cocktails --and 3 years ago, I saved seeds and started 3 little plants --they are about 12" tall but they sprouted!

Janey, this was a productive movie! Praise God that those fruit trees are starting to get pruned, as they are just so heavy! I also love cleaning out some space in the annuals. Personally, I prefer some ground space, so that all plants can be admired. I know most gardeners love to just create an overwhelming jungle, but I love a tidy and balanced garden. ❤😂❤

I had gophers here in Florida 9b. They even got into my raised beds because I did not put down hardware cloth! I used Molemax which is castor oil on a hose end sprayer. It took three applications to get them to move away! It is safe for pets and children. Good luck!

Good Morning! Has your family consider getting a gas-powered chipper for your garden. It’s a fantastic way to mulch garden waste instead of tossing it out. The resulting mulch can enhance your garden's aesthetics and health. Plus, it's a great way to recycle precious material back into your soil. Love your videos❤

I have three pomegranate trees and always wait for the first signs of splitting. They’re the best ones! Juice the pomegranates you don’t eat and they freeze well too. I invested in a good juicer and make jelly and drink juice all winter. Yum!

Thinking beautiful pots around the garden to hold your very favorites would be fun, and totally fool those gophers... A smaller skipsteer might be a Santa wish this year. I see some viewers are suggesting a chipper? Would grinding up the yard waste before tossing into compost pile help break down your piles??

it was hard but ive learned it ok to prune fruit trees in the spring, summer and fall in our area. Summer has has gotta be a cooler week. but it really helps thin the fruit. and control growth, and keep the shape you want. fig trees can also take a hard prune every other year, I cut it back all the way to the trunk and reshape it. they love it! i still get a ton of figs. Hope this helps!

Hi Janey. I love your videos. I just ripped out a bunch of bushes, topped with cardboard and compost. I did this because of you. This is prep for a cut flower garden next spring (6b). My 'side border' is totally 'construction debris'. There is even a large round chunk of concrete that looks like someone dumped it from a bucket.

Wow, I had no idea they could be frozen! I'll look into it...whether whole or prepped? I did learn some professional kitchen techniques for removing pomegranate arils that make the process much more fun. One involves cutting out the stem in a star shape and then cutting through the peel and partially cutting through the fuit in five equal parts. From there I remember breaking it apart easily enough, Another technique involves wracking the fruit halves, peel side up of course with a wooden spoon. (I'm sure there are videos on line) Once tge arils are mostly free you can gently immerse them in a cold water bath to remove any clinging bits of pith. The pith and debris float to the top, easy to remove. Gently drain out the water and your pomegranate arils should be mostly intact and undamaged. Hoping you see this Janey! And you will give us an update, maybe some visuals, of what transpired with that glorious bounty! I'm awed by everything you do! Thank you!

I am new to perennials. Dang gophers! Despite them, it's looking beautiful ❤. With the scale of your property, if the premade gopher cages (especially for large plants) in that quantity feels like 💸, Deanna w/ Homestead and Chill has a great DIY gopher cage from hardware cloth. I believe it's one of her first videos on KZbin here titled "How to plant a fruit tree and make a gopher cage" She's a great source for knowledge and is in California. Best of luck 🙏.

Will you be waiting to plant in the long border? Won’t the decomposing wood chips under the compost take up alot of nitrogen? What a game changer if you can successfully plant immediately. Love no fuss gardening. Wish the rest of life was this easy. Lol

All those pomegranates!😍 They are so crazy expensive here in MN, which is annoying because my family loves them so much! Can you speak to the concern or lack of concern for wood chips under compost as it relates to tying up nitrogen for decomposition? I thought if wood chips were under the soil level, they would tie up nitrogen? Is this not the case when covered with compost? Thanks!

Can you not haul off your debris to the local landfill? When I do my fall and spring cleanups I lay a tarp in the bed of my pickup and load it in there. Our landfill doesn’t charge to dump yard waste. Seems like a lot of extra work to break it all down and smash it into toters. I’m in a rural area though, and our town doesn’t pick up yard waste at all, so we have to haul it away on our own.
@suelfitz
@suelfitz 3 сағат бұрын
You would not believe what the local landfill here in the Davis/Woodland area charges for green waste. The waste management company that serves our area wants everyone to compost at home, so the dump fees are outrageous to discourage using anything other than the green waste bins.
@sheilastromberger2275
@sheilastromberger2275 3 сағат бұрын
@@suelfitz that’s too bad. Seems like it would be less work for the city/county to not have to pick up everyone’s toters and just charge less to have people dump it at the landfill themselves. Maybe that’s a difference between being in a city vs a rural community (less than 2000 people in my town). Or maybe it’s a California thing 😉

I planted some Lowes clearance royal raspberry agastaches in fall last year, and I waited and waited over winter and spring and they both looked dead. So I pulled out the rootballs when I did spring seed sowing. When my seeds were popping up in summer I kept noticing these purple mint looking seedlings--I pulled up the early ones cuz I thought they were weeds, but the ones that I left turned into the raspberry agastache! Idk if it's true to the original plant, but the leaves and flowers look similar. TLDR: check that area after winter and there might be a small chance that the "dead" agastache either reseeded itself or sent out some runners that you didn't notice this year. I'm in IA, zone 5b. Edit: autocorrected "rootballs" to football😂
