I’m an interview i either read or watched with the band, Cole said it was weird to start writing slow songs for Deceiver and FIBL because a big part of their early live show was speeding these songs up into more rocking numbers, so it was an intentional thing, but yeah, this is *fast*.

It actually sounds like the tempo is set higher than the recorded version on purpose. If you listen closely you hear that the delay time on both the lead guitar and bass are set to be faster than on the recording. Half way they do bump up the tempo even further though. Nevertheless I watched this performance by accident four years back and I was in awe.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't pick who we wants on. That's up to the promoters and organizers. Also, it's not a matter of cost. Everyone that plays on letterman, does it for the publicity. No one is paid to perform on letterman. I'm sure bands don't mind that, cause hell, they're playing on LETTERMAN. Good band. I just think its awkward when indie bands with youngsters play to a crowd mostly of reserved white old timers

MrWalker1000 I still remember this performance, I stayed up watched this ENTIRE episode of Letterman just for DIIV. I don't think Dave had a say in who plays his show, indie bands making their TV debut are pretty cheap, and DIIV's album came out only a few months before

Acoustic, Jandek type music.. It's unlikely its online but I have a few tracks from friends who run small labels in BK (like World War Records etc).. Just dissonant mumbling.. Several months after touring with BF, he's all jangly/punky and upbeat.. Coincidence? Maybe, but I think he obviously realized that that formula was were the money was at, and he's right (for about the next 12 months max). Which is why Im surprised DIIV is popular. This is all so 2008 (or really, 1986)..
