Father, with all humility and charity, why isn't it mentioned that only in a state of grace can one be in perfect devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ? In what I've read (from your predecessor, Jean Croiset, S.J.) there are 4 dispositions necessary for true devotion. One of them is interior recollection, also, a great horror of ONE's OWN sins, but what I hear from this new encyclical, it is about outward actions of love and service? Not of inward reflection? The document was over 100 paragraphs, no mention of these dispositions?

@@jjwurtz If you read the Devotion it specifically states one needs to be in a state of grace to have perfect devotion to Jesus Christ. Also, great horror of one's OWN sins (not the world's sins), an ardent desire to love Jesus Christ (lots of talk about Jesus loving us), a zeal for living the true faith, and interior recollection (outward signs of service and faith are on outflow of interior recollection). This encyclical is deceiving at best based on Margaret Mary's devotion. Also, I've read St Bonaventure. Of course God loves all, but he does NOT offer graces to those who wish to NOT receive them

Pope chooses to close eyes against the challenge of Islam as a center of hate and contrary spirit. He knows that the single most important obstacle to love, and mutuality in the world is Islam yet chooses to ignore it in writing an encyclical in the 21st century. I can understand: Rome and Argentina are far away from Islam but the pope should remember that many Christians are not that lucky. While the encyclical is a nice recommendation, we need as an immediate practical solution help of any sort.

To suggest that the Encyclical is mere “a nice recommendation”, is the same to be said about the Gospels? And what about the words of our Lord when he lived on this earth during a time of intense “contrary spirits”? Immediate practical suggestions? What are you looking for? Is the Gospel of Jesus merely “nice recommendations”? Matthew 5, 6, 7? Matthew 25? Have you read the Encyclical? I suspect perhaps you have not. If you had, I think you would recognize the frailty of your comments.

When we dig into our own history as christians, we encounter an age of the "crusades" in which Christianity took on fights as a way of evangelizing and building territory. We need to look at Islam in it's context of development as a religion. There are quite a number of Islamic religious leaders who advocate for peace. I believe it's the extremists pushing for hatred. Even extreme christians are a danger. So, radicalism is it usually helpful more so, Islam from the word Salam should mean peace... Let us focus on spreading the love we believe in and through that our lives become a more vivid testimony as Paul VI would say "The wold does not listen to preacher but to testimonies, and if they listen to preachers it's because their lives are a testimony." The first reparation of the outrageous crimes against the Love of Jesus during History must be the Repentance and Denunciation of the betrayal of Jesus by the Shepherds since the fourth Century, when they granted the Christians the same "right" to kill their neighbors in 'self-defence' etc without being guilty of murder as the Pagans always claimed to possess for themselves since the Sin of Cain! So the Christians, for whom before it was unthinkable to harm or kill their blood-thirsty persecutors, now (maybe not very happily but) very comfortably co-operate with the evil societies in building of the kingdom of 'the evil god of this world' (2 Cor 4.4)!
