Johnson's style is unmistakable with his octave rolls as in the D key

I actually enjoy these simple arrangements where the roll cutter extends notes and adds at the most an octave or two. Not like sometimes where there are to many drone notes and trills.

Is this an arranged roll of a hand played roll. Looks like too many notes for a single person to play.
@PiotrBarcz4 жыл бұрын
@@SQUAREHEADSAM1912 Yes this is a hand cut but embellished roll. Basically they used these little boards with holes as guides and sometimes a Lebarjan piano roll jig. J. Lawrence Cook used the QRS arranging piano that could hold notes and advance the roll by one beat.

Sounds like on of the songs in the movie musical “Chicago” ♥️

About the only version I've ever seen or heard that plays it at close to the tempo prescribed in the sheets - 'Moderately. Not too fast'. Everyone just seems to play it Presto/Vivace, which rather ruins it.

A semi-precurser to the famous Sweatman tune "Down Home Rag", which is considered the earliest Jazz recording in existence. And though I can't say Sweatman got his inspiration from this tune, he definitely copied a few of these note lines. Which would make this a precurser to the precurser of Jazz, that's a mouthful.

Does this remind anyone else of the Spider Dance theme by Toby Fox? He likely got his inspiration from ragtime rolls like this.
