Gandhi statues need to be eliminated from black spaces. We have our own heroes.

@@tejesheconomics4072 Start by not glorifying him and quoting him. Eliminate him from future books. Remove his statues. When you know better you do better!

@@ayodejiolowokere1076...so a guy has no forgiveness even when he shed his Racism ......he is forever labelled as a Racist all his life....and could never be accepted as a decent human being...So in your opinion great leaders are born and do not evolve.....so by applying this logic may be Jesus and prophet Muhammad too will be called anti Trans anti gay homophobic...in ner future... because this what happens when you are born in the 21st century and demand a guy to be as racially conscious as a guy 2 centuries before....

Good to hear Prof. Vinay Lal's commentary. Tragically he has failed to rescue Sergeant Major Gandhi from the charges of racism against the black people.

No matter what century Ghandi was in, he is accountable.he had a mind and knew right from wrong but chose to fight for just people who looked like him. He didn't see a problem with people being treated unjustly, he didn't want his people to be amongst those being mistreated, wicked man.

Charges of people today being against Gandhi for speaking out for black people in his time and area...is a very poor defense. I'm sure there are black americans who would dislike, disapprove and denounce the efforts of William Wilberforce today and they would be just as ignorant and asinine as those who would've spoke against Gandhi for attempting to help indigenous Africans of his time.

It's weird how we expect a man born in 1869 to be perfect, even when the world around him wasn't. And yet, we don't put our current leaders on the same pedestal. Lol, people just need a dead scapegoat sometimes.

Gandhi was such critic that if he was somehow contacted today, I think that he will accept that his early views on black people had a tinge of racist thought. Gandhi's perspective on this in addition to the hierarchy of civilization, may have been influenced by the hierarchy of castes in Indian society and how 'cultured upper castes' described and looked at the 'uncultured lower castes'.
