Knighthood for Dillinja for his services to the destruction of speakers. Big tune

There should be a blue plaque outside the studio where he made this.

Funny you mention Lemon D. Dillinja and Lemon D both have amens that just jump out of the speakers and come to life. This tune is a perfect example of Dillinjas work, and say "I can't stop" by Lemon D is a good example. The kicks have a thump that is amazing, there's a sheen over the amens that is incredible. Damn it.

Please accept my apologies in advance if you already know this information... I thought it may be of interest to you! Dillinja's 'You don't know' (Remix) was perhaps too early an example; having been released in 94', but that 'sheen' you hear in Dillinja's productions from I assume around the era he launched his 'Test' output, (97' onwards) was most likely due to the Z-plane filters on the EMU 64 sampler. Although the EMU 64 was mostly known for it's role in resampling bass; especially 808 kicks that had been driven 'hot' through a Mackie desk, (Optical's 'Moving 808's'/Dillinja's Accurist' & Fracture & Neptune's 'Clissold' are very clear examples of the Z-Plane sound) It was also used on the top end of old funk breaks, as they were often lacking in high frequencies due to the age of the recordings of these samples. Instead of simply using an EQ to fix the issue, some of the best producers were using the EMU 64 instead. This was for the fact that it not only fixed the issue of poor high end in the break sample, but it also made the highs a little more pronounced & thicker, which gave the sound of the break overall more: 'Colour' (Please excuse me: I realise it sounds so pretentious to use sensory/visual adjectives to describe a sound, but you get what I mean, lol!) The EMU 64's usefulness didn't stop there, either! It was the genre's Panacea from 96'-00' & came back into popularity less than a decade later! If you listen to the Pads, Sound FX & Atmospheres on the intros for the Wormhole & Torque LPs, you'll here it's unmistakable sound there, too! The most bizarre thing to me, is how just one sampler, literally shaped the genre in such a dramatic way! My apologies for the essay, but I felt it necessary to share some information that I felt you & others may enjoy to read about!

I saw a documentary a while back where he said he liked to run things overloaded through his mixing desk. Think it was an old Mackie desk but going from my poor memory.

Yeah I've tried to get the same effect on my amens but I've never managed to do it, neither has anyone else I've asked about it. He makes them so splattery without sounding harsh. Could be some kind of analog-domain saturation.

I hear ya...but we've (Elek Tronique.tv) tried to get an interview with him and Lemon D. We got Lemon D, but Dillinja declined... imho Dillinja will take classic productions like this and /watch?v=rRt5ISZn9aQ to his grave...but for me it all started with 'Jah Know Ya Big'....

I'm kinda angry at Dillinja. I mean, what ever he did to those amens and made them so amazing sounding... can he at least write a book or something, and not take it to the grave with him...
@riskybusiness808 жыл бұрын
its a dam fucking shame that shit is secret, there are some well known facts tho, it was actually an akai sampler and not the emu he's known for (because of the metalheads vid) that processed these Amens, the stutters are time stretching and not chopped edits, dirt is given from the desk, a Soundtracs Solo and not a mackie like everyone believes ;)
@wilfprophecy59798 жыл бұрын
also tascam desk but yes he sold the mackie desk to a good friend of mine..... he just the master of processing and re-sampling.
