Amazing talk! But please, keep the slides as the main thing in the recorded presentation. We like looking at Dillon but being able to see the slides at all times too would be fantastic.

Understood. We tried to find a balance for recording. He had a lot of transitions on the content which probably impacts it a little. It was a great talk though!

Second that. Pretty interesting talk. The world of programming languages is so crazy! The presenter still doesn't know data focused languages like R, PYthon and SAS. Those will blow his mind too! Also APL, J, K. Prolog!

@@generalyoutubewatching5286 Presenter here - despite not making my slides or presentation, I am very familiar with R and Python (I completed 3/4 of a masters degree in Data Analytics at Penn State), I unfortunately don't love those languages 😅 That being said, Prolog does have my interest and is on my ToDo list to play with 😁

its hard to explain the beauty of Gleam DX to someone who has never used it. its unlike ANY other language. there was so much love put into every aspect of this language.

Yep! I'm so into this. I discovered Gleam a week ago, and I am already productive. Great talk too.

What’s the use case of this vs Rust? Also, this vs Go?
@pengain424 күн бұрын
Gleam is totally different from Rust. Rust - is a modern approach on system programming languages. It's quite complex and have quite steep learning curve. Gleam is (mostly) more like a server-side language. It might share this field with Go (e.g. for writing web-services) but it's can't replace it completely (e.g. for crafting cli tools).

Gleam is nice, but to be close to “ideal” for me it needs to: * remove curly braces * provide discriminated union syntax like in F# (or I missed this case in gleam?) * module in module support like in F# (I haven’t seen this case in gleam) * + vs * string interpolation But with applying 20 / 80 rule to “ideal” state, it looks very good. PS: F# ❤

Gleam does have tagged unions. In fact structs are introduced as tagged unions with a single variant. I don't know about the others

As an OCaml fan, I can appreciate this list - especially sub modules.
