Dimapur shutter down call: Trade bodies hold meeting with district administration

The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) held a meeting with Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang. The meeting was called following the indefinite shutter down call by the DCCI over the “unabated multiple taxation, intimidation and summons" meted out to the business community in Dimapur by Naga Political Groups. The district administration, following the meeting informed that it will now write to the state government to address the grievances raised by the trade bodies.
Speaking to the media Chairman of the Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dr Khekugha Muru said that the issue is not just restricted to Dimapur but extends across Nagaland affecting all the business owners.
“If needed we (Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry) will be stepping as Dimapur is not the only place that is being taxed but the issue is affecting entire Nagaland. So, definitely, it is an issue that has to be dealt at the state-level,” Muru added.
There are close to 30,000 shops and business establishments in Dimapur that will witness an indefinite shutter down from April 26. The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the trade body that called the shutter down, also requested the civil society organisations and the public at large to bear with the inconveniences and to lend their support and cooperation for the interest and welfare of all citizens.
The DCCI has also requested the state government and the law enforcement agencies to take immediate steps to protect the business community before the situation spirals out of hand.
It also stated that the government and its agencies can no longer afford to ignore what the business community is going through.
The chamber also noted that due to the unfriendly business environment in Dimapur, many businesses are shifting from Dimapur to the neighbouring towns in Assam.
