From the UK here, it is that easy & i'm no mechanic by far. I got a 2015 1.3L Yaris CVT with 88,000m 2 yrs ago (I assumed it was never done) I did a drain & re-fill 2x in 2 weeks. Rather than taking the plastic cover off by the inner wheel arch i used a 24mm spanner from top of engine bay,used a garden hose pipe & a funnel to pour in the fluid like in your movies about college kids at a party,them going "Chug,chug,chug", there is room there for me. The fluid i used was the proper Toyota FE,cost £58 for 5L bottle & that's why i did 2x drain n refill....each drain was 2.2L. It drives smooth as silk 2yrs later.

You will under-fill it if you open up the drain (with orange pipe installed) if the transmission is anything hotter than just barely warm. ...... You are supposed to run the car, and get the TFT (tranny fluid temperature) on the OBD scan tool to read between 104F to 113F when you are letting excess fluid spill down the installed vertical orange pipe here. Also, make sure you shift into D and R a couple of times while it's running to get fluid into all the circuits. The required range of 104F to 113F is barely warm for a tranny. ..... Notice that full hot operating temperature (150F to 190F or so) is TOO HOT for the orange pipe, so if you do that you under-fill the thing.

generally, if the car is relatively cool or barely warm and if you pour in roughly the same amount that came out, with a tiny bit extra 50-100ml, it's fine. nothing will happen. shift it through the gears after before going for a drive, and you're good to go.

Thanks for this video. this video gave me the confidence to do the transmission fluid change myself. there are other videos out there, which show you a complicated procedure getting the transmission in the right temperature range (with a very small margin of a couple of degrees). I can't imagine that with a manual that explains about self-service so much that this is really so complicated. Anyway, I did it, and my transmission is more 'alive' now, shifts back quicker and smoother. it was necessary despite it has only 30.000miles on the odometer after 6 years. greetings from Europe with an american imported 2017 Toyota Sienna (8 speed)

Hello Vinnie from North Carolina. It's great to see you doing what makes you happy in life working a job you actually enjoy instead of one you've got to do with little choice. Thanks for the tip on changing the tranny fluid. My Dad was a mechanic from the time he got out of WW2 until he sold his Texaco full service gas station and I learned a lot from him but with these new cars that knowledge don't do me much good unless I'm working on a car that's a "classic" like me. Lol...if I lived up where you do I would definintly take my cars and trucks to you because I feel like I can trust you and I don't even know you. I've got a '96 Chevy S-10 LS that has the 4.3 Ltr V6 in it and the motor don't burn a drop off oil and its for 203,000 miles on it. My fuel pump went out and a guy was gonna charge me almost $900 to put a $100 fuel pump in so I said not just no but hell no! I've been told many ways to fix it but I'm thinking because I have no lift, no forklift for the tank because it's full of old gas that I don't want in my motor, so my idea was to unhook the gas line near the chassis, tap the old pump to get it working long enough to pump out the old gas in the tank, then take the bed bolts out, lift the bed up just enough to get the fuel pump out and install the new one, then simply hook it all back up and bolt the bed back down. I pray this will work because I'm about to start on my truck since we're having warmer weather now. I know you can't answer everyone's comments Vinnie but what are your thoughts on changing out a fuel pump and filter in a '96 Chevy S-10? Keep in mind I have no lift or forklift to take the full tank out and even if I emptied it I'm not sure I could get those bolts loose holding the straps for the gas tank. Thanks Vinnie and keep making these videos my friend, I subscribed a while ago as soon as I saw your first video. May God bless you and your loved ones and always watch over you and keep you safe from all harm!!! ✝️❤🙏🇺🇲 WWG1WGA!

I change my transmission fluid AND filter every 12 months regardless of mileage. I do mostly city driving so that can be hard on transmissions. My current car is a 2001 Toyota Corolla with 215,770 miles on it. Runs like new.
@cclngthr
@cclngthr 2 жыл бұрын
@blitz Nope. The filter on the Toyota is $25 plus tax. On the Ford Contour that I had before this one had a auxiliary cooler filter in the cooler line that was $26 each. The internal filter on the CD4E which is in the contour cannot be changed since it requires splitting the case to get to it. I prefer to keep the transmission fluid as clean as possible. As I said, I don't drive that much, and it is city driving. That is hard on transmissions. I prefer to use a severe service schedule or sooner if the mileage or time is higher. I maybe drive 5000 miles a year.

On the Toyota, there is only 8 quarts of fluid in the transmission. When you drop the pan you only get 3.5 quarts out not 8 quarts. 4.5 to 5 quarts still remains in the torque converter.

Hey Ven didn't know you had a channel and when I seen it I just had to watch because I knew it would be informative and must be my lucky day because I have a Dodge Caliber with no dipstick and they're bad about overheating in summer and I been worrying bout getting it changed. I had a mechanic but died from COVID and he really was a good one and honest one too. He told me he wouldn't fool with changing the fluid because there wasn't anyway for him to know exactly how much came out and was afraid wrong amount may do damage. At the beginning of your video you were talking about knowing how much to put back in and then after your fluid had stopped draining into the mop bucket you said ahh that's about 2 and half maybe 3 quarts and then when you went to check the dipstick after you filled it and as you were waiting on that little bit to drain you said this why I just go ahead and over fill it some to make up for this. Once again it seems that exact amounts aren't that important just as long as you don't over fill it or under fill it.??? Seemed like a pretty easy job but I'm wondering how much is not overfilling and how much is under filling. Didn't mean to write a book on the subject but just need to know. Sure am glad I stumbled on to your channel. I had just watched a documentary last week on what happened to the characters from Orange county choppers.

I just slip on my bluetooth OBD sender and watch the temp rise while on the rack and as soon as the temp is hit cap it all off. 290K on a 2010 Camry. Only things replaced so far has been brake pads at 210k (autostick saves brake wear), drivers side rear wheel bearing at 50k (freak), tires, fluids, and a clockspring because of my own stupidity. the last thing replaced was the heat shield toward the middle rear of the exhaust (long aluminum piece of crap that corroded and broke the mounting tabs). Dorman replacement is, surprisingly, heavier gauge.

You lost me but I think I get it now. That crazy plastic dipstick is actually a tube that controls the height of the tranny fluid in the pan.. Vinnie knows what's best, change that tranny fluid often. Consider how hard today's transmissions work, it is no wonder they wear out so quickly. I have questioned all the online folks who say never change/flush the fluid claiming it will wreck it.... Even flushing the tranny moves the fluid in the same direction as it normally flows, so how would that loosen up crud inside. Your explanation does make sense now, it is the detergents in the new fluid that might free up the gunk inside. None of this will be an issue if you change the fluid regularly.

@@AlexV-pf3io not sludge, the particles that make up the sludge is actually clutch pack material. The proper way of changing your ATF fluid is to do several drain and fills. You do one drain/fill, then drive the vehicle for a few miles, then you do another, you repeat this process 3 or 4 times. What you actually want to do is replenish your cars transmission fluid, you never flush the system. At 40,000 the transmission had a two stage gear change shifting slipping then lockup on the clutches. after 3 drain and fills it's shifting smooth and positively! I did do the drain and fill every oil change for those first three exchanges. Will be doing one annually just to keep the fluid clean.

Did mine a few weeks ago, it went well thanks your straight forward tutorial.😉 The hardest part was removing the drain plug and the fill plug because they were pretty tight. To remove the drain plug, I used a hex key with a cheater bar. To prevent snapping of the key, I used the box end of a 6mil wrench inserted in the key on the other side with a cheater bar on it too and twisted counter clock-wise with both arms. I used part of an old vinyl garden hose I cleaned prior, to pour oil in the transmission. It fit perfect in the hole! What I don't like of the trans. in my 2010 Camry, is the fact that it doesn't have a transmission cooler. If I drive at speeds under 50km/h on a hilly gravel road and the weather is hot it sometimes reaches over 200F. That's when I have to turn on the heat full blast and open all 4 windows!🥵

Thanks for the video but (just so viewers are aware) The last steps with the top off are VERY important and in error. You need to put the car into "temperature mode" FIRST per the factory manual and the car will tell you when its temp is correct to set the level. Putting the car into "temperature mode" requires NO extra tools as it is just a procedure that activates the built-in mode. I am fairly certain that this can be done on ANY Toyo or Lexus that has a sealed transmission. The factory manual also SPECIFICALLY says to (after setting fluid levels) add 200ML of fluid to the trans. and THEN your are done.

Be aware that the correct fluid level is not trickling out when the trans fluid is at operating temperature but instead when it reaches a specified temperature which is lower than full operating temperature. The only way to correctly set your fluid level is with the use of a scan tool that can read trans fluid temp. You can't use a infrared on the pan, that is not accurate enough. Typically around 120 degrees F but the service manual should always be checked first. Full operating temp is around 175 - 180 degrees F and can go up as high as 250 degrees F and sometime more. If you set your final fluid level at full operating temperature your fluid will be too low during cold operation. I also would not rely on the volume of what you removed because during the last fluid change the level may not have been set correctly.

you need to read instruction how to replace transmission fluid, to drain the fluid, the temperature should be between 40 - 45 degree celsius or 104 to 113 fahrenheit。 Also you need to loose fill in screw first to make sure you can do it before draining fluid.

Two things. First: this procedure can't be done properly without raising the car level which isn't possible for the average DIYer because he's using a jack in a driveway. Second: How do we find the fill port for other Toyota motors?

I have a 2023 Camry XSE V6 (3.5-liter) auto 8-speed. It has 4,740 odometer miles. Should I get a FLUSH and FILTER done at 25K miles or Drain & Fill? Which is best? If Drain & Fill at 25K, intend to get Flush and Filter at 50K miles. Any idea what cost (best guess or estimate) might be for Flush and Filter? Dealership overcharges, whereas else where may screw it up. Personally, I would do it myself but I do not have the means to get the Camry onto a hydraulic lift and if I were to jack up the car, not able to get underneath. Thank ya kindly! I can't believe all the underbody panels/covers Toyota uses, so much plastic it's ridiculous. Been nicer if stainless steel or 5000 series aluminum. Oh! the method you use is so much easier than the "Car Care Nut". He gets the trans to temp, uses an infrared/laser gun to check temp, drains the fluid, replaces like you shown, runs the car to get fluid to temp, AMD the CCN then shifts the car in-out of gear several times, finally drain till a trickle and plug it. Meaning AMD adds a couple more steps.

Gotta disagree here. That is not how to obtain the final fill level. It requires doing that in a specific temp range of about 110 degrees using a fancy scan tool or a jumper wire on the OBD termials. The easiest way is drain the oil when it's cold into a graduated container. Put the exact same amount of new oil in of the SAME temperature and be done with it. Not necessary to warm up the oil, drain the expanded amount until it dribbles, etc. Draining and refilling with the same amount at the same temp is fail proof. This goes for all Toyotas and Lexus vehicles.
@Mijanboy
@Mijanboy Жыл бұрын
You didn't come up with that well at all. But considering that such a change of 1/3 of the total amount of oil is completely useless, in addition without a filter = it is better to do nothing. And your idea will make it even better because in the cold state the cold oil will leak for 2 hours and the least possible amount will leak. And we will leave the different properties of old and new oil for another time. Just so you know. Mercedes AT oil dipstick - the difference when measuring when cold and hot is 5cm on the dipstick !!! The dipstick also has a line of cold oil, but the manufacturer considers this to be very imprecise, so measure only in an emergency and preferably not at all.
@pault1439
@pault1439 Жыл бұрын
@@Mijanboy you do a 3x3 tranny fluid change. That is the accepted method for Hondas and Toyotas. The fluid drains just fine when it's cold. I did it twice this past weekend and start to finish was under 30 minutes only bc the fill hole was hard to get to.

@@pault1439 And the filter? Too complicated and too much work. I will heat the MB to 45°C (120°F), drain the oil, remove the oil pan - inspect, wash, wash the magnet and wipe the entire oil pan dry and put a new gasket on. I will replace the filter and install the oil pan back. I connect the oil flush and start. In a moment, I start the car and put it in D (the car is raised). Diagnostics connected. After disconnecting the flush, I go to check the level. Without dipstick temperature same 45°C (120°F). With oil dipstick check after 15 miles = operating temperature = 80°C (190°F). But it's good that you change 3x3. 👍👍Mechanic in the video = one of the few who knows what he's talking about. There is only one thing he is wrong about, when he talks about very dirty oil, when the change will make everything worse, so the reason is wrong. Today, for the 1st time in my life, I saw a video where he has a chevy traverse automatic transmission filter = that's unbelievable. Greetings from Central Europe.

Hiya man, this is Gerry from Australia. Can you pls show how to change the auto transm fluid in a 2016 or later Mazda CX-5. It also comes with the "lifetime" fluid which I suspect it means "It lasts for the tranny's lifetime". The filler hole is in the top and it has a lil stick and most say they have to take out all of the air intake box, but i saw a dude in youtube changing the fluid without taking the air box. Thanks Vin
@donow8464
@donow8464 Жыл бұрын
There is no way to know the exact level without filling the trans letting reach a precise temperature with the drain plug OFF and waiting until it stops overflowing to a trickle then installing the plug. You can use a OBDII if it shows trans temp or use a temp reader on the trans oil pan but the specification is a vehicle specific temp not '150F" for all vehicles
