My go to suggestions for pick up combinations are as follows; 1.) Dimarzio Super Distortion / Paf Pro 2.) Seymour Duncan JB / '59 3.) Emg 81 / 60

Try and an evolution in the neck with a super distortion in the bridge

DiMarzio Super Distortion pickups are by far my favorite bridge pickups. They work in any body wood. Great playing and sound man!

you just can't beat a Super Distortion, this pickup with the 5153 is just perfect to my ears, great playing too

I've been considering both the SD and the Duncan Custom, and I think that this is the best SD demo on KZbin. It's great to hear the SD being used with the 36th Anni as well.

I used to use the Duncan Custom. I use the Super Distortion now! I even stopped using active Blackouts and EMG's for the Dimarzio Super Distortion. It's everything I need and more

@@MosheAlvarez exactly, i just switched to Dimarzio Super Distortion on one of my Les Paul, other guitar has a EMG 81 (absolutely nothing is bad about it) but i find myself now loving the Dimarzio all the time. love the versatility. sorry for the late comment, 3 years after...

The neck pickup sounds good too. The 36th Anniversary PAF seems to play well with the Super Distortion in the bridge.

Sounds great👍......what made you choose a 36th Anniversary in the neck......v.s. the usual paf-pro?
@JoelDucote3 жыл бұрын
I wanted a traditional Les Paul PAF tone in the neck. The PAF Pro is a little more hifi sounding to me ears.

Hi, the PAF 36th installed, is it the Neck DP103 or Bridge DP223 version? thanks

in general do you prefer Dimarzio or Duncans? I'm trying to decide on a nice mid-high output bridge pup that is nice and thick in the mids and low mids but still tight with nice note clarity, considering Duncan Custom or Dimarzio Transition. Any thoughts?
@JoelDucote10 жыл бұрын
I just replaced the Duncan Custom. The Super Distortion sounds very similar but with better string definition.
@AkiraSpectrum10 жыл бұрын
joel ducote awesome! do you find the Super Distortion to be a lot hotter in the output than the Custom or similar in that department as well? My worry about the SuperDistortion is that it may be a little too hot; which is why I was considering the Dimarzio Transitions.
@JoelDucote10 жыл бұрын
I find that they have very similar output. The Super D sounds like a tighter more defined Custom. I also think that the Super D cleans up better when you roll off the volume pot on the guitar.

if you had to choose a humbucker for a paul among the dimarzio super distortion or the duncan custom sh5 .. which one would you choose? which is the most complete or simply which one you prefer for hard rock or versatility?
@JoelDucote4 жыл бұрын
Between those two pickups, I prefer the Duncan Custom.

Digging the tones. Which do you prefer the Super Distortion or 500T? Thanks.
@timbuk11262 жыл бұрын
The Super Distortion is a way better pickup for this type of music. It's chunky and clear.
Do you know the Dimarzio Crunch Lab and Liquifire Pickups? Do you have any opinion about these pickups in a Gibson Les Paul Guitar?
@JoelDucote6 жыл бұрын
Adriano Ganzarolli I don’t have any experience with the Crunch Lab or the Liquifier. Sorry.

Go for it! I have the crunch lab and liquifire and they sound awesome. They will do a Les Paul justice. Have no fear.

Would anybody respond and let me know what magnets are used in the super distortion? Ceramic?...???
@JoelDucote9 жыл бұрын
Yes, the super distortion uses a ceramic magnet.

Thanks! I discovered a brand of very affordable pickups called 'Calig'..(Caliguitar). Caliguitar.com I bought the H57 Meltbucker off ebay for $23! .Took the Duncan distortion out of my charvel so-cal.This pickup is way better! Its a ferrite ceramic magnet, at 14.1 resistance. So from my investigating, it basically a Super distortion with a bar on the one coil. Besides looking cool as hell!.. it has better saturation and thicker with more presence and sweetness on the top end! They make many other pickups also, and a line of vintage too".. Check em out!
@IwishIwereJoe9 жыл бұрын
So would it be worth buying a calig over dimarzio ? I discovered calig yesterday but , it's always hard deciding to buy a unknown brand that many people don't know about
@dewycatt21129 жыл бұрын
IwishIwereJoe I was attracted to the Calig because it was only $23 dollars. And I thought the Bar on the one coil looks cool. But the quality seems very good! (construction). And if I didn't like the pickup, I would only be out $23 dollars. But its in my charvel and am happy with the sound/tone. Its thick with lots of sustain and more brightness and presence than the Seymour distortion that was in there. I'm going to order another for the neck. I've played guitars with the super distortion and it didn't seem much different than other typical humbucker pickups. So I think its just personal preference. I think players that use a lot of gain choose ceramic to keep it tight. Alnico's seem best for classic tone with less gain so as to get more breakup that the amp is not doing.
