This is a traditional Kazakh song based on a poem by a poet and patriot arrested and jailed for conspiracy in the last Century. While jailed he was informed that his wife (Daididau) had left him. Then in midst of pain and sorrow he wrote her a letter (the poem). He was executed in 1939. Kazakhstan as other countries has a strong and sad history. The country became independent only a few years before Dimash's birth. And Dimash knows, deeply, the history of his beloved country and suffered people. Thank you so much for understanding and accepting Dimash's feelings. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Like someone else suggested, your knowledge of what is behind this song, with her backstory to the song plus the addition of Eng. subs makes the Gloria Wu video of the Singer 2017 (Episode 7) performance of this song worth seeing. Even more important is using Gloria Wu's version of Episode 8 "Daybreak". Although the Bastau Concert version is better from a performance aspect, the Singer performance is a more emotional for 2 reasons. First there is the tragic story of the song with the subtitles, and second her video goes into the story of how Dimash lost his voice the day before having to sing, and nobody knew if he was going to be able to pull it off. Although you have already done the Bastau version, watching the Gloria Wu version for yourself is still worthwhile for the reasons I mentioned.

Dimash was raised by his grandparents at musicians family...
