Li Yugang is actually a well known Chinese traditional opera singer, he has special training and specializes in the "nan dan" role. I think in the Drunken Concubine song... it's about a date that goes bad, the concubine waits for the man/emperor but he does not show up so she drinks and gets drunk (she gets angry and acts out). And as I remember the old version of the song is not sang by a woman, it's still him dressed up as a woman, even in the original music video.

The Drunken Concubine is a Chinese opera. Mei Lanfang was the main artist of this song/opera but he was known to have female roles (since women weren't allowed in the theater). He was one of the last men who performed as a woman as the country changed its government movement. The opera is about a king's concubine in the tang dynasty who loses favour with the king. She tries everything and eventually gets drunk and does outrageous things because she wants the love of the king again. Dimash/Li Yugang here bring together two opera styles of the west and east--> truly beautiful.

Dimash enjoys getting to know and work with artists from other systems and styles, especially when he gets to work with the "cream of the crop." He gets a little lonely, being the only one of his caliber in most of his life. With someone of this level, he can talk about things most ordinary singers would not understand and relate to. He has absolutely no psychological barriers based on color, race, social standing, etc. He is entirely without bigotry. I've noticed some people in the audience (like middle-aged Americans) looking a little shocked that he is so comfortable with people of every "class", but as soon as they see how he behaves with some foreign artist, they relax and learn something they probably couldn't have been taught, in ordinary circumstances.

This song is about the sad love story of the historical Emperor Tang Taizong and his beloved concubine Noble Consort Yang (one of the four great beauties of ancient China. Many poems were created about her beauty). Emperor Tang was a mighty emperor until he fell madly in love with Yang and neglected state affairs. Rebels almost overthrew him until his generals and officials unanimously petitioned him to execute Yang for bewitching him. In this song, Emperor Tang bestowed Consort Yang with poisoned wine which she drank willingly. As she lay dying, she reminisces on happier times when she drank wine with him underneath the stars.

@Italian dear 4ever I see him at several Comments.. As a phycologist told me, that many ppl who does this suffers from some mental illness or depression.
