Dimash didn't speak a word of English at the time and only learned the lyrics phonetically. It was the 3rd song in the competition. Message from Sveta (Dimash's mum in 2017) re: Brian May "We have received a message that great Brian May, the lead guitarist of the legendary rock band «Queen», gave a feedback after reviewing of Dimash’s performances: “Dear Jane! Thanks for your message. 💥 I wasn’t aware of Dimash, but I certainly am now! Those performances in the links demonstrate what an extraordinary voice and ability he has. Now I will know !! Sadly I won’t be around on the night of the O2 concert, so I won’t be able to attend. But I appreciate the invitation and wish you all the best of luck with the show. Please give Dimash my regards and congratulations. Best wishes. Bri” Dear Brian! Many thanks to you for your kind words! Good health, happiness and creative successes to you, Maestro!" (picuki) In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old) and the first non-Chinese. Foreign participants were actually forbidden until then. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home. Despite Dimash's planned brief presence, his name was intended to be symbolic and understandable to the public. Dimash was given the Chinese name Dimashi and the 3 syllables were assigned Chinese hydroglyphs: ⭐Di - achievement ⭐Ma - precious stone ⭐Shi - dream, wish. This competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood in front of his door. The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to KZbin ... and so we became Dimash's Dears. The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China. Dimash’s top note in this song is an Eb6, not his highest, but really freaking high! And yes, he can sing higher than Brandon Urie. This song, being an iconic Queen song was a very smart move for Dimash-he took on one of the best voices in the history of rock in Freddie Mercury, and then he makes the song his own. The 1-2-3 punch of Dimash’s first three performances in this The Singer 2017 competition are just unreal-SOS, OPERA 2, SHOW MUST GO ON. There was a brilliant interview once where he briefly explained the mechanics of singing and likening it to mathematics and sport. It was very apparent that he understood in great depth everything about the voice and also explained a little about why he moves in the way that he does during a performance and how he can get away with body posture that would hamper a musician who doesn't have the degree of training that he does.

Yeah he 'DISHMASHED' IT ! Yes 'Oooh Ooow!' He also smacked down onto his knees a bit harder than planned. I heard he was limping after! - & later; Chinese fans were following him & giving him gifts of Knee Pads to wear! He's quite fond of flinging himself to his knees in many performances, & having worked in orthopaedic rehab units - where knee replacement surgeries don't always have the best outcomes - I do wince EVERY time he does it... First, let me say how very much I like your reactions and comments, plus no vulgarity. Dimash was 22 yrs. old when he appeared on the show "The Singer 2017," and the first time he sang a song in English. I think you would have truly appreciated Dimashs' progress had you begun your reactions to him by starting with this show & the episodes in which he participated. He also, for the first time, sang a song in Mandarin. In his first four performances, he sang in French, Russian, English, and Mandarin. Impressive, right? This was a Queen cover. All the other singers were 12-39 yrs. his senior. Dimash still does vocal training for 3-5 hrs. a day every day. I hope you watch Dimashs' other performances on this show. Especially Adaigio, All By Myself, and Unforgettable Day, the last song Dimash composed when he was nineteen. I'm sorry that I am just now finding your channel. There is so much more of Dimashs' music that you really NEED to hear. You will still be amazed.
