At the beginning sounds an old Turkic stringed instrument called Kobys. It is probably the oldest bowed stringed instrument in the world and it spread to became the prototype of all European string instruments as violin an chello. The Kobyz, or Kylkobyz, is an ancient Turkic bowed string instrument popular among Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. Its Kyrgyz variant is known as the Kyl-Kyyak. The Qobyz features two strings made of horsehair and a resonating cavity typically covered with goat leather.

He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz for that. The kobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s wide spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter. He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable. Stranger was written by the famous Russian/Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter Igor Krutoy. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range, such as Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You’ll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him. The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It’s more like a father/son relationship. He wrote this song and others especially for Dimash’s wide vocal range. Please react to Olimpico from his Arnau concert in 2019 next. In this song he sings in Italian. You can find it on Igor Krutoy‘s Channel. Olimpico is another masterpiece that Igor Krutoy wrote especially for Dimash’s vocal skills. It was written for the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus 2019. And that’s why the lyrics are also very motivating. This song and this performance from this Arnau concert is my absolute favourite🥰 I think this version is the best, because his performance is so intense and breathtaking. The light show, the background dancers. Everything. With this song in this version I always get breathlessness. The way he represents himself on stage, the hand movements. I think he has incredibly beautiful hands🤭(and apparently many cameramen think so too, since many of the camera shots during his performances very often only show his hands. Sometimes it seems as if he is conducting himself. This is really fascinating). And the facial expression, the look. There he looks so commanding😱. In my opinion, this version of Olimpico is one of the most impressive performances ever. If you don't know what the song is about, you'd think he was going to war and is calling his army to a lost battle 😅! It’s absolutely stunning. Qobyz is the instrument at the beginning. Yes, you saw Igor Krutoy on piano and he - in conjunction with Dimash’s input- composed this work. I agree that it is beautiful to watch Dimash as he performs. Not sure if you’re familiar with the novel by Robert Heinlein, “Stranger in a Strange Land”, I get a giggle noting the sci fi concept of those lyrics since many have likened Dimash to an alien! Hi. Interesting point to the lyrics of this song. As Kazakh I can hear the History of my people. Most of time in history on the edge of life and death because of starving. Moving from one place to another with hope to find out better space. Persecuted by nature and other peoples, almost twice extinct, but still alive. All of these just my opinion. Cheers.

Dimash has said that he wanted to do a song that addressed the refugee crisis, but not in a "oh those poor things" way, but instead encouraging and determined to make a good life in the new circumstances. This song was the result. The other singers on stage were the contestants in New Wave 2021, where he was a guest judge. As something of a reward, they all got to sing this new song with him at the end.

Igor Krutoy is not his mentor, he is a composer that Dimash works in collaboration occasionally. Dimash has been working as a gifted musician all his life. He is highly musically educated from the age of 5 and is a master composer himself. He is a multi instrumentalist that is about to complete is PhD. He is a world renowned artist and very much his own boss. ❤

Igor in fact came out of retirement just so he could work with a Dimash after seeing his performance of a Sinful Passion at the New Wave in 2018. He can be seen in the video giving a standing ovation wearing a white shirt and he has admitted that he gets so much more from the collaborationas Dimash has bought a freshness to his art. KZbin video reactors have all failed to catch the fact that when Dimash gets on his knees in front of the children's choir at the end - a little girl reaches over and rubs his head....a girl to her left yells at her to "Stop that." Dimash nearly breaks up laughing about it as he finishes. An interesting note: Stranger ~ composed by Igor Krutoy ~ lyrics by Sharon Vaughn. Sharon Vaughn is an American composer/lyricist who is in the Country Music Hall of Fame. One of her more famous songs is "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys", made famous by Waylon Jennings and again by Willie Nelson.

I don't understand reactors who cut the video as soon as the singing is over. At least half the time, there's much more informative info - in this case, introductions of Igor and the musician. Just watch the whole thing.

Another enjoyable reaction. "Stranger" is the first of three songs Dimash premiered in August 2021, during his performance at the annual New Wave music competition in Sochi, Russia. He again performed with Igor Krotoy on the piano and introduced Olzhas Qurmanbeck on the kobyz. Igor Krutoy composed the music, American poetess Sharon Vaughn wrote the lyrics, and Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan) did the arrangement. Igor Krutoy is quoted as saying, "it was Dimash's talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities, and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don't see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way." In my humble opinion, this is an amazing performance, one of the best to date. Dimash traverses almost 5 octaves (C2-F6) in this performance. That stunning last note is about 19.7 seconds in full mixed voice belt in F#5. Dimash performs an alternate version of "Stranger" on the "Shine! Super Brothers S2" Youku Show that is simply mind-boggling and well worth checking out. Thus, the kobyz debuted at the New Wave Hall at the Sochi Olympic Park, and what a great choice indeed. It is a beautiful-sounding instrument that underscores the song's deep meaning. This wasn't the first time that Dimash has featured Olzhas Qurmanbeck playing the kobyz. You can also enjoy him in a few of Dimash's other performances, such as Qairan Elim (official music video) and Samaltau (2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival). The kobyz, played here by Olzhas Qurmanbeck, is a 5,000-year-old, traditional, sacred instrument in Kazakhstan. The kobyz or Kyl kobyz is the most ancient bowed instrument on earth, widespread among the Turks, Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. It became the basis for most of today's bowed instruments worldwide, including European instruments such as violin, viola, cello, and contrabass. The Kyrgyz variant is called Kyl kayak. The instrument is carved from a single piece of wood (typically apricot), juniper (arsha), maple, pine tree, or birch. The instrument consists of three parts: head (base), middle (base is keude), and lower part (ayak) and usually measures 60-70 cm. The resonant cavity is usually covered with goatskin, reproducing a sound representing the animals of the steppe. It has two strings made from horsetail hair, one to provide melody and the other resonance. Someone explained that one string is made with 75 horse hairs and the other with 60 horsehairs. The strings are not pushed down to a fret but are played with pressure applied by either the fingernail or the pad on the finger, and the tones are varied by the pressure of the bow. The bow is shaped like an archer's bow, and its string, made with 40 horse hairs, is tied to both ends of the bent branch and affixed with strong threads of camel wool. The New Wave Music competition started in 2002 and for nearly two decades now, has been one of the most iconic music events in Russia and other parts of the world. It is an international contest for young performers of popular music. It was founded by Russian composer, performer, and music producer Igor Krutoy (seen here playing the piano) and Latvian pianist and composer Raimonds Pauls. Russian superstar Alla Pugacheva eventually joined as one of the show's organizers. The contest usually lasts for six days: 3 contest days, 2 special event days, and the final day when the contest's results are announced, and a final concert is performed. The television audience of the New Wave music competition numbers more than 200 million people. In 2018, Dimash debuted as a guest performer, performing his now legendary rendition of "Sinful Passion." This year (2021), Dimash took part as a guest performer and a judge. 11 participants from 9 countries competed for the grand prize in the finale.

Hahaha Art is subjective! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion! I’ve only heard 2 songs from Dimash so I can’t pick a favourite yet. What’s yours?

@@KoalityReactions IKR! Thanks for the support. I adore Dimash, i seriously do..but some hardcore fans can be very intolerant with any type of critisism (real or imagined) when it comes to Dimash. Hes on the other hand one of the most caring, humble, respectful and hard working artists out there and would be upset to know people act extreme in the name of "protecting" him. Anyway. I really appreciate Dimash singing in his mother tongue, theyre mesmerizing folk songs based on true historical stories such as "Daididau" (bastau concert) and "Samaltau" (Tokyo Jazz or 2021 version). Something magical and melancholic about those performances. I love ur channel and your personality btw. Sending you much love and hugs from Istanbul, sister ❤️⚘️💐

@@ordinaryvalleyYes, die hard fans can be protective! But I don’t think every song has to be your favourite in order for you to love the artist. I’m sure they have their own favourite songs too! I think most artists appreciate all their fans, and I hope they always praise kindness. 🤍 I’ll check those out!
