Dimensional Data Model is a denormalization technique invented by Ralph Kimball. In this model, there are two types of tables:
- Fact Table which contains: Metrics, Foreign keys of associated dimensions, optional Degenerated Dimension, optional Audit information
- Dimension Tables are the Descriptive entities associated with the fact table
A Dimensional Model Design, has a fact table is surrounded by dimension tables, this design is referred to as Star Schema

CASE STUDY Today's Learners has more than ten libraries spread across five cities in the province of Ontario. There are books in departments such as Geography, Comics, Health, Economics, and History. Employees directly enter barcodes in excel sheets when books are borrowed. In recent months, the library has had few visitors, almost no new member registration, and reduced quantities of supplies from vendors for unknown reasons. The management of today's Learners Library has decided to implement an analytics system across the entire organization to increase member satisfaction and attract visitors. Currently, each member has an access code that allows them to use the libraries and borrow materials. The management has decided to track new membership registration and attendance trends, the impact of advertising on new registrations, material borrow and return efficiency based on the number of days between the collection and return dates. They are also curious about the most ordered book in each department and library at each time of day, number of visitor-facing employees in a given day. Books are supplied to libraries by only certified vendors. Purchasing Manager wants to know the life cycle of a book and when to purchase new materials. Management has decided that any changes to information about employees, members, or materials (books) will be documented.

Could you go though with an example with preexisting tables? So we have to create the dimension tables and import from existing tables but the date dimension table is really confusing
