Ovtcharov is not the same player since his surgery his career has already hit the peak.

Not only that but did you see how that other player would serve short to his FH and Dima would push with his BH then they guy would tops in it. He won a lot of points like this as Dima hardly does a FH push cuz it’s his weakness. His FH was always weak too.

@@reinaldopessoa2603 which top 10 player does a BH push from the FH side 95% of the time? No one. I get that he was injured before but adapt to it. You see how messi, Cr7 and Ma long adapt to their game after a tough injury. (I just used a football analogy to prove my point).

I cant`t understand why the judges don´t say anything about Dimas forehand Tomahawk service. Its clearly illegal, he throws the ball over half of the table...

crazy thing is it's not even half as bad as some of the other serves top players get away with, WQC serves somtimes in front of the line and many other hide the contact behind their body or head. Dima throws it not vertically enough but at least it's a high toss and you can see a clear contact and it's not an unfair advantage though I agree it is still illegal. But if the umpire doesn't call it then they will all keep playing to that standard

It s a shame that the referee never asked to have a proper throw at Ovtcharov's tomahawk serve. Look at how much distance there is between the place where he stands while throwing and the place he is when he actually hits it. Shouldn t the ball be thrown as vertically as possible?

It has to be "near" vertical but this is obviously vague and subjective but there are many players who throw up the ball way worse than that and get away with it.

@@PenisMighty in the whole tournament I only saw Ovtcharov doing that. I agree with the "near vertical" argument but he is forced to make a side step to serve. If you look at it the lateral distance is equivalent to half a table. That s huge!

I wonder if he changed equipment because now he uses red rubber for the FH, and besides that he twiddled for smashing. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I was also surprised. Usually he plays with black fh and red bh. But twiddling for smashing he was already doing before when he had black on fh

@@rinforzandott6827 normally people do that when they have tacky chinese rubber on the forehand, he has powerful forehand loop with a very low arc so him using hurricane 3 could be a possibility, but I'm unsure.

@@gab5012 yeah, you can search it in the Butterfly website, he uses Dignics 09c (FH) and 05 (BH), maybe hes testing another Dignics model (80 or 64) but i dont think so

I feel that Ovtcharovn has bad weight transfer. Hes never been great with his feet but his weight transfer is just bad.

damn, that weight transfer is so bad that he has been ranked number 1 in the world and consistently ranked top 10 for many years. you should join his coaching team to help him get better

Ovtcharov was and is still a good player. He is not a GREAT player because his shots, especially the serves, are too predictable. He has also slowed down quite a lot due to both age and medical problems. Sad part is all the rackets sold under his name suck!
