Kumite for me is full contact. I agree that this is just as hard as normal Kumite but I just dont like it that much. No need to insult people.

reply to olivator1000 : exactly! Karate is not a boxing style like Wing-Chun Kung-Fu or like the Kuokushinkai (heretical Karate).Traditional Karate styles are literally speaking fencing styles.

Tassadart2 Therefore there is a refery to decide whether that touch would have been a real-world victorious blow or just a touch. Either in fencing or in a bare hands fight after the touch of the blade or after a decisive blow the fight is decided. Traditionally bare hands and full control were peculiar features of karate, but still there occured accidents. For safety reasons gloves and chest-protective gear have been introduced.

snakeeyed305 But there is a difference. In fencing, touch can make a real wound. In this kumite not. Having speed without power will not be effective that blow. This is far from a real fight. Sure, we're not going to make them fight to the death. I'm not saying that this is silly and pathetic, like other comments. I also know that this is not the whole art of karate. And why do you say that Kyokushin style is heretical?
