In the beginning the vocalist says :" Are you ready for an evening with Dimmu Borgir. The first song is Gateways. You can possible guess who is with us on the stage....no others than Agnete from the band Djerv, "Translated to you from a Norwgegian ❣

Dominika is so right - it is a comforting song. It's about personal freedom and against suppression. I don't see it as dark, it's very bright and uplifting. :) But I can also understand that music like that can be kind of disturbing, when people listen to it for the first time. Anyway - you are both very adorable! 🥰 I love watching your reactions. And the "robe, rope ... clock!" dialogue made my day. 🤣

Yes this song really is about personal development. Dimmu, especially in the last few albums have some really enlightened lyrics. They matured beautifully imo.

They are right it's about unity and acceptance black metal is all about freedom and beauty of life and nature. It's scary image but the opposite in lyrical themes.

Right on the spot that this is a comforting song. The essence of the song is for people to "wake up" from the rut they are stuck in, and realize that nobody creates your life for you - the only person who is in charge, is yourself. Go out there and be the broken or the breaker, the healer or the faker - the choice is yours. How is that "black metal"? Black metal as a genre has deep roots in satanism, but not so much the biblical kind. Modern "soft" satanism is an opposition to the limitations religion places on humans. When the holy scriptures say that you shall not eat too much, or that you shall not love certain people, or whatever similar kind of repressions, soft satanism says the opposite: eat what you like, love who you want, be who you are. You don't have a destiny and there's no deity that decides your persona or your fate, and the outcome of your life depends primarily on *your* actions.

So glad my favourite KZbin couple is reacting to my favourite Black Metal band! I feel you Dominika, nothing to be scared of here! I believe that comfort you speak comes from the ability of separating the melody from all the heaviness in the song! I often explain people that have a preconceived (wrong) idea about Metal music, that there’s so much melody in it (with exceptions of course) and that’s what pulls me in every time. Dimmu have really good lyrics and arrangements, hope you listen to some more of them!

She knows EXACTLY what this is about, and she's amazing. Not the woman in the song, the lady in the video. AWESOME. He needs to understand Metal music, and its power about religion and culture that has put humans down for centuries..

I had to watch this reaction right away. Welcome to the world of black metal! 😄 And I loved your reaction! Dominika, you definitely should've been introduced to metal long time ago. It's obvious that you are a metalhead deep in your soul. 😊🖤 Anyway, there was a period in my life when I really tried to listen to most extreme metal genres, but if I want to be honest, I never really succeeded. It was a bit too heavy to me. However, there were few bands (or songs) I kind of listened to for a short time and Dimmu Borgir is one of them. I am really glad you were introduced to a different genre of metal. I still have a feeling that you might like some of those most extreme genres, especially some of doom metal. But we'll see if I'm right. 😉

They have also performed in Wacken with orchestra. 'Progenies of the Great Apocalypse' or 'Mourning Palace' could be the next steps in their heavily orchestrated side.

Symphonic black metal. I think it was Ozzy who said once that he makes horror songs, but like movies, it's just songs. I don't particularly like the movies and I love the songs.

Funny enough, when I first saw Dimmu Borgir live in Portugal, they stirred a bit of hatred between the crowd at the beginning as when they addressed the audience, they said “Good evening Poland”! Lol😂

This song deals with the subject of astral planes (a plane of existence postulated by classical, medieval, oriental & esoteric philosophies and mystery religions), in a arquetipical way of telling, talks about some planes of behavor and how you hold the key to many others and for that ''you are your sole creator'' or something like that :)...

There are other bands which combine symphonic elements and extreme metal . Try Septicflesh, fleshgod apocalypse and Satyricon. Also Cradle of Filth although id a little different.
