Vortex clean vocals are beast. Worst decision to fire him and Mustis.

I like the effect, it gives me a apocalyptic feel, like someone is speaking through a throat cancer machine. I guess my head have a music video of my own. 😂

Please do 'Kings of the Carnival Creation' next! the album version is SOOO much better than the live version you checked out. it's one of the songs I had on repeat at one time.

Halfway through this, so I don't know how this will play out, but either way, I've been watching your videos for about a year now and I just gotta say, I'm glad you're still doing this, man. After your video about seeing Ghost live giving you the inspiration to keep going, I just wanted to say I'm really happy you saw them and got that firey inferno still raging. Even when you don't like some of my favorites (Daughters), it's always fun to hear your well thought-out reactions. Don't stop, dude. Ps. I saw Dimmu live and it was the sickest metal performance I've ever seen (their last tour with Vortex!)

This is likely my favorite Dimmu Borgir song. I know it from way back, when I found a used CD copy of that album. It was my introduction to the band and their sound. The whole combo of extreme black metal paired with such majestic orchestration is still remarkable and excellent to me. Especially the powerful horns that kick off the song and return again. Having an issue with the mix is legit, since there are different takes on how high or low parts should be in it. Always a production choice, and they can’t all be right. I agree the bassist is a strong clean vocalist. And the fact he plays the bass doesn’t hurt, eh? Don’t know why they didn’t keep him or he was released as a member. Still, this group has created worthwhile extreme metal compositions when all is said and done.

Apparently he showed up drunk for rehersals and such. He's cleaned up now and vocalist of Borknagar.

@@rolsen1304 also there was a picture on Dimmus instagram about a month ago with both Vortex and Mustis at one of their live shows this year. I really really hope it means they might come back

Also check out their older stuff like Insight and the Catharsis, Reptile, Arcane Lifeforce Mysteria, Kings of the Carnival Creation, Sympozium, and more for more awesome clean vocals from Vortex.

Yes! Thank you for reacting to this (and not stupid Gateways), and listening to the album version. The music video is edited and not as good, and the newer live versions that most people listen to has a choir and orchestra instead of Vortex and Mustis, and doesn’t sound nearly as good.

Really enjoyed this song. Those clean vocals were so good.

live is amazing, doesnt have that effect and they use actual symphonic orchestra, and actually the album version i didn't like it too much too haha, good score tough

Live from Ozzfest 2004 (without orchestra) is probably the best version of this song out there. Choir might be a nice addition, but it does not replace Vortex.

ICS Vortex got you, and no one is surprised. :) Even a choir couldn't replace him. There is a great compilation of him here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jonVk3l-aLKXrLs

Reading one of the comments, the live version is better as the vocal effects are not there. I believe that is most likely true. Not one of my favourite Dimmu Borgir songs but I am not that keen on their overall sound. Not comparing but I immediately was reminded of BabyMetal, when Su's voice is completely destroyed by electronic tweaking on the studio audio but as with this track, the live version comes to the rescue.

It is possible to listen the version without the band (and mr Abbath from Immortal) . It is written purely as an orchestral piece (full of trombones that give a "Star Wars" vibe ) and then the band is layered on this . That can cause a lot of problems in this 00s mix and a lot of confusions among listeners . But this album is one of the biggest metal projects and it was an immediate bestseller in black metal genre , though the previous album was already sounding more like an industrial with symphonic elements (you listened to ""Hybrid Stigmata" from that album) . Then after the Death Cult Armageddon they sound a bit different again... and the songs are a bit shorter . You can study music engineering with this band because every next album is ambitious to sound modern , mainstream enough , and better than the bands they are competing with .

I don't know why people always recommend this song. I mean, it's a good song, but it is by FAR the least interesting on the Death Cult Armageddon album.
