the best thing about DTF is their consistency. It's like the McD's of XLB. Consistent. It's not the best XLB but it will be consistent. As for the cucumber salad, its less "salad" more palate cleanser. The food you ordered is very rich. If you had an XLB, had a piece of cucumber. your next bit of food be it rib or xlb, will be "fresh", you are not eating rich piece after rich piece. That is the purpose of the cucumber salad. It is like you eating at a upper end place, on your heavy rich dish, steak , duck etc. there will be a sour/tart or bitter element to smear, dab or eat (could be a bitter ish endive). It's there so you dont get tired of eating fatty rich bite after bite. Your palate gets refreshed and you can keep going instead of drowning in the monotony of it all

I travel a lot for work. It’s true, Florida’s best food is probably on Disney property (and Miami). BUT, it doesn’t even come close to the caliber and variety of food you can get in Southern California (and NorCal for that matter). This is probably why DLR doesn’t focus too much on fine dining. They know they can’t compete. Also, why does WDW’s theme park food have to be so subpar when they have such great fine dining establishments? And Disneyland has such subpar fine dining but has amazing theme park food? Different types of vacationers I guess.

Actually Napa Rose is close to the best that I've had in either SoCal or NorCal. It's not French Laundry, but within the "ballpark."

Din Tai Fung puts Disneyland restaurants in another level. This is the real Chinese cuisine. Favorite food there Xiu Long Bao and the Shanghai Rice Cakes.

So glad you and Monica enjoy Din Tai Fung. I love this restaurant. Actually your tweets on din tai Fung earlier today made me hungry for din tai Fung so I went to the din tai Fung that is close to my home for dinner tonight 😂. Next time I recommend you to try the red bean n mochi dessert Xiao long Bao I like it more than the chocolate. Also try the seaweed and bean curd salad (which I also like more than the cucumber). Their fried rice is very good too. And also recommend their sweet and sour soup. Have the food with hot jasmine tea is even better. for alcoholic drink try the lychee mojito . 😋

I know it's hard, but spearing food with your chopsticks is considered bad manners in parts of China and in Japan. BTW. we've been to Din Tai Fung quite a bit and even then, my mouth is watering.You were right to get the chocolate mochi XLB. Those are fantastic.

I am a fan of Din Tai Fung, and I agree 100% about the Cucumber Salad. When I received mine (in Century City), the cucumber were actually wilted. However, they serve the best Hot and Sour Soup I have had anywhere. I'm glad they're open at Downtown Disney because aI was there just a couple of weeks ago, tried Centrico, and was completely disappointed.

Well, looks like all reservations are booked for nearly 3 weeks till July 14th and walk up is the only option for the rest of us. If it's consistently an hour wait though, that ain't too bad and I'd definitely do it!

Hello Mondo and Monica 😊 Just viewed your DTF food review, looks great to try. There is a DTF in Santa Clara , a 45-1 hour commute from East Bay, Got to try now! Pork bun (Bao) = char sui bao. Try the garlic string bean (long bean) a must! Thanks for review

just a clarification. the pork bao isnt char sui bao. the dtf one is a braised soy pork mantau. think braised pork sliders they serve in some chinese/korean places. char sui bao is saucy typically red, sweet braised pork loin. either in the steamed or baked variety. also agree, garlic string beans is an excellent dish.

I always eat at the Vegas location at Aria Resort...the servers are all 100% on point with knowledge & service...of course the Baos are way better than Tropical Hideaway, but that depends on what you want (a good quick to-go snack vs an upscale food experience)...every item on the menu is PERFECTION...of course you didn't have their Lychee Martinis, which are the best...that eould have made your meal Chef's Kiss...

My family and I love going there. My favorite and sisters’ personal favorites are the vegan spicy wontons and the noodles with spicy sauce. Once my family accidentally ordered the sweet and sour pork baby back ribs. They said it was good that now they order it when we go.

I'm Taiwanese. DTF is Taiwanese chain restaurant worldwide. Some people say Taiwan’s DTF offer better quality of food than other countries’ DTF. Im not sure it's true or not cause I've never been to other countries DTF. Also, there are several soup dumpling restaurants which are more affordable in Taiwan. You will find more int'l tourists than locals in Taiwan's DTF. Over all, DTF’s success relies on its consistency.

I wonder why the Din Tai Fung there have so few noodles and fried rice options. Over here in Asia, the Din Tai Fung have many more noodles and fried rice dishes on the menu

Next time don’t puncture the XLBS. Let them cool down a little bit and then put the whole thing in your mouth. So much better. Trader Joe’s also has great chicken or pork XLBs if you want to enjoy it at home. I recommend getting their chili crisp oil and enjoying it with the xio long Baos.

We LOVE Din Tai Fung we go to the South Coast Plaza one - so happy you had a good time! Definitely get the green beans instead of cucumber salad. Also for sure try the crab & pork XLB, Shanghai rice cakes and friend rice w/ fried pork chop!

We have this in San Jose, it’s a pass for me when I’m in Anaheim. It’s a great place but I’d rather enjoy something that we don’t have in San Jose. But now I’m going to stop by to get some this did make me crave it again.

Since you’re in SJ, Dough Zone is almost as good as Din Tai but without the markup. Din Tai is the best hands down, but you do pay a premium. Only place that isn’t worth the hype is iChina. Not worth it IMHO.

I guess this cuisine is just not my cup of tea cause none of that looked appetizing to me. Alot of that looked bland and unappealing. it's a high end, overpriced brand name Restaurant. And if I'm gonna spend that much money, I want a feast. But that's just me. I'm simple. if I'm in Downtown Disney, I'd rather have a corn dog from Blue Bonnet.

I’ve been to DTF in San Diego, Vegas and Seattle and it has never disappointed. Service is outstanding, food is fresh and tasty and the prices aren’t bad…particularly if you stay away from the alcoholic drinks. Highly recommend!!

It’s absolutely not bland. Original location in Asia is a Michelin Star restaurant. The quality at every location I’ve been to has been consistent. I’m surprised a theme park would even have this level of a restaurant.
