It's been a long, long time since I've really had my mind blown by a solo bass performance. This was jaw-dropping from beginning to end. If you're new to bass, and reading this - pay close attention to how little he moves his hands. His economy of motion is excellent. The song almost sounds like it's two basses playing, but it just shows what one truly talented player can do with smart use of hand positioning.

Well it helps to have larger hands to reduce the motion necessary for fretting the movements.

Good lord, I thought there was a delay effect on him at the beginning but no... Between the quality instrument and the flawless technique, my dude's playing is so consistent and articulate it sounds like a MIDI file! 😂 Its been a hot minute since a solo bass piece blew my mind like that. Bravo, Mr. Baldwin!

The playing itself is awesome, but I think it's kinda sad that dingwall doesn't really give credit to the amazing artists they use in their promotional videos, atleast a link to the original song or atleast the song title, in the description would be a nice way to support the artists more in return.

What are you talking about? You can literally watch the video and see it isn't sped up.

I think the artefacts you are hearing is reverb. If you listen to the very beginning you can hear that there is reverb on the track.
@MatthewtheBassPlayer2 жыл бұрын
The amount of ignorance in this reply is actually pretty funny. With modern DAW’s you can increase the BPM of recorded music dramatically with zero artifacts: the video of him playing it at this tempo is also clearly unaltered.
@J201-t3r2 жыл бұрын
@@InVerum Video isn't sped up. The sound is. He didn't record live. You can see him bend strings when there's no bend in sound (1:39, 2:13, 2:28)
@InVerum2 жыл бұрын
@@J201-t3r oh.. oh sweety. You're not the sharpest tool in the shed are you. I want you to think long and hard about what you just typed. Use that brain of yours I promise you can do it. What you're actually experiencing is the idea that this is done in multiple takes, and that the performance you're seeing on camera is done after the audio is recorded. There are going to be small differences. But if you are watching him play it in real-time, then clearly, the audio is not sped up. Jesus Christ...
