You can pause time by opening the journal and going to options

Using multiple shovels speeds up terraforming. place like 5 shovels in toolbelt, fill them all up, then move to other place and empty them. You can dive to pick um mussels and such from underwater Planting fruit is much faster if you first place down fruit, then use shovel to dig below it, and just cover it with that same dirt. You can do this for a bunch of fruit in advance, go around, drop fruits (if making orchard), then just run around again and dig below them and cover them. To get "seeds" from bushes (flower) and cactus, you have to cut them down. There is no way to plant mangrove trees, but they respawn quick Before upgrading Axe you can get hardwood planks by sawing "bottle tree" logs (from those trees that look like baobab tree)

You can deliver a trapped animal to the scale at John’s shop if you don’t have the crafted item yet. It works!

If you stay up late (past 12) time stops, but your stamina greatly reduced. Use this period to do your cooking of food to prep for selling the next day. Also when you start, time does not start until after you have placed both the base tent and your own tent. Therefore hold off placing these until you have fully explored the world. Forage as you go, and collect water based food (eg mussels and crabs). That way you can start with lots of levels, and permit points (Eg level 20 forage, level 2 fishing ) and have identified where resources are. Also collect bananas and coconuts to set up early money making orchards.

If I were to start again, I would build the bulletin board before building John's shop. The bulletin board is, if I remember correctly, 10k to pay off. It doesn't take much time to pay this off and you can get quests through it that bring in money. If you build John's shop first, it takes a while until you have paid off the town debts and are able to build the bulletin board, so I'd do that one first.

Agreed I made shop first but I was confused and saved up enough money to pay for shop and had enough fo4 bulletin board also now working on museum debt.

At 17:23 you can get hardwood in early game with a basic axe by cutting the bottle trees. If I remember correctly they drop a bit less logs than the pine trees but enough for what I needed. They were in in the plains/desert in the middle of my island, but location might vary in every map.

My favorite easy way to get money early game is run all over the map and collect shells. They stack well and they come back later. Butterflies take up entire slots.

So many funny fails where you even tried to teach us how to plant grass but just learned that you couldn't on sand xD small things like that just created such an entertaining video for me to watch. Axe works for breaking bridge as well…also I found today if you wanna row row row your boat. Gently under the bridge. You have to elevate the bridge some. Like three steps High or so.

TIP: Single Player mode - Next to settings page (go on the settings tab) it shows an option to ‘Pause Game’, so I’m assuming that’s how it’s done on Single Player mode :) See comment!!

Note: this only works after you’ve saved (slept) / reloaded the game. When I started a new play through it wasn’t available until the next time I loaded up the game! Hope it helps x

The save function was added after he recorded this, it says in the timestamps. Also, you can only pause after day 2.

Keyboard and mouse it's "Q" to drop. John and Fish Fingers is the same pain in the rear as the cement! A Quick way to get 50K a day (some game re-logs required to respawn the animals) Have animal drop off points on your character along with 10 Metal Traps. Find the Bush Devil, Crock and Mu spawn points place a Animal drop off point close to the spawn locations, place a couple of traps down near it, have the hostile animals to follow you; soon as it's in the trap quickly pick it up and dump it off in the drop off: you have 3 - 5 seconds. A Hostile Mu is 8.6K, Bush Devil is 9.6K and a Crock is 12K. Happy hunting everyone. Tip for the Alpha Bush Devil: Eat 3 cooked Crock Meat and have a copper spear, when it stops to make it's special attack get behind/to the side of it and attack 3x then jump out of the way.

I just bought this game this week and started playing still very early game just unlocked the museum and built it. This is definitely a very fun game even in early access and only being 20 bucks us. It's a great price really enjoying it.

Not sure if someone else has been mentioned this, but I find that planting trees is easier if you drop the fruit or seed and then change to your shovel, you shovel out the dirt/sand from underneath the fruit/seed and the immediately replace it.

Not sure if this is in here but if you take yours dinks and put them all in inventory slot or a chest at base, you don't lose a percentage of them if you die. Especially good early game when you will probably die a lot from things like sharks and crodiles they are very aggressive.

There’s a trick to fishing. When the fish is freaking out, tap the mouse button instead of holding it or letting it go completely; that keeps the fish from pulling too much line while also keeping the line from breaking. Once he’s done freaking out, reel it in; fishing motion should be (tap, tap…reel, tap, tap…reel…). There’s probably a quicker way to fish, but I’ve found this way to be quick and effective enough

Pausing the game... you can kind of do this after you sleep, but do not click through the accomplishments for the day (prior to waking up). Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think you continue to wake up at 7:00 regardless of how long you wait on that screen.

THANK YOU for explaining the bags of cement and the friendships! I played my first time yesterday on stream and for the LIFE of me could not figure out WHERE/HOW to "mine" him a bag of cement! I spent HOURS and never got him past a quarter of a heart and then would lose it again :/ because he keeps wanting cement and clothing? also fun note he asked for any old furniture I had. then he refused to take my sleeping bag :/ which I would have thought was furniture. so yeah....

Look at you willing to give your very own sleeping bag away! Yes I do not have any furniture either so I kept having to decline those requests. Keep in mind if they ask for something and you know you can't do it, it's okay to say no. But if you do say no and change your mind, they will no longer have a request for you :)

Fishing Tip: Tap the reel in button when the fish pulls away, so you don't lose any line durability. Tip 2: Jelly is used in kegs.

From what see after starting a new game a few times, the map changes. The key areas stay the same though. So if your not liking the layout of the land, just keep creating a new game until you get something that suits you

As of 10/6/2022 you can pause the game by going to your Journal then Options and to the right it will say Pause. click it and you can pause time on the game until you return.

Cooked bush lime gives a lot of energy. Always carry tons of them when you are going far from camp. So you don't have to worry about energy being low.

Awesome video! Learned a lot of helpful tips. So I noticed that you can’t change the visitor buy resetting the day but it will change the task that they want you to do. This is useful if they ask for something that you can’t do yet, like cement bags. Hopefully you can make another video on this game, best one I’ve watched yet. Lot of good tips in the comments too 👍

You can pause the game. Hit ESC then options and you will see a pause button there. Really inconvinient way to do it when most keeboards have a designated pause button on them.

Make trapped stations around the map to save time… capture crocs Which takes no time at all..at 9600 per it’s a quick 54k for me just running around…you can metal detect and make a lot also but just to explore and have fun it’s easy money…🤷🏽‍♂️

Metal detecting is maybe the best option to get money it’s harder to get the metal detector but it’s worth it, on about 13th day I already got more than 1 million dinks

i know this might break game machenic but i found out a way to make infinite money less effort. what i did was i made 4 traps and put those touching the drop zone. now all i do is lure a cocodile and he gets instantly flys away. thats how i made around 50k every morning, with just luring some croco. you dont even need any weapon

Can fish for sharks later, but can't put it in your pockets. Jelly makes a drink with the right crafting point. Stash you shiny discs - an NPC will pay a premium for them when they show up.

Hey Ridge, In my experience it takes multiple visits before they decide to take up permanent residence. Just today I was playing and the animal seller showed up for the 3rd time. Every time I bought 1 chook. After this 3rd time they asked to remain permanently and the deed was available to purchase from Fletch. Not sure if it’s by what you purchase or heart levels, I was also trying to do their fetch quest for them

Butterfly catching is cute early game for money and donating to the museum (for first time donations). But after that, metal detecting is best for money. You uncover a lot of items that are helpful in crafting recipes as well!

I am a few days into Dinkum and I just learned that I am apparently very lucky to have gotten the axe upgrade early. Not sure how to unlock it, but I did chopped a lot trees. Dropping on keyboard is Q. I tried to plant one of those flowers, Billy sButtons. It didn't sprout out like the trees, but it has the bury tag. Do you need a special tool for it or just trust it will sprout by using a shovel?

Very impressive that you got the axe upgrade! With flowers like Billy buttons and the blue flowers too, I found you just press the action button over dirt and they’ll be planted! They do say “bury” but for some reason you don’t bury them like tree seeds. Just plop them on the dirt ☺️

You get upgrades by raising your skill level. If you used the axe a lot, you raised your level a lot, so you got the upgrade recipe. It would be the same with whichever tool you used a lot. For the flowers, you don't actually bury them in a hole, but you just place them, the same way you do with grass seed. If you chop the wattle bushes, you'll get wattle seeds to plant. Plant a lot of these near your camp. Not only do they sell for a lot, but once you get the keg you can brew with them, and then that sells for a ton.

I found you can pause the game, but it’s relatively complicated and not native to the game lol Bring up Task Manager -> Click the Performance tab -> Click Open Resource Monitor at the bottom -> Click CPU tab in Resource Monitor -> sort by Image so processes are in alphabetical order -> Right click dinkum.exe and Suspend Process When you’re done, just resume the dinkum.exe process. Convoluted but it works if you want to pause and go cook something and not have to sleep and exit the game
