You have a chance for an old contraption from the Investigation quest at the bulletin board. Metal detecting for it can take a really long time, but it works as well if you are waiting on that quest to show up.

Sometimes I can find 2 or more engines, as I call them, in a run and sometimes I can’t find any. I start metal detecting early for money. And I save some of everything. I’m sitting on about 10 of them after using quite a few. I find them mostly in yellow containers and I don’t see you getting any of those. Sometimes changing areas helps too. But the riverbanks are the best place I have found to get a bunch of stuff. Made 150k one day selling everything in about 10 mins. Also as I’m sure you figured out (I hope), you can get iron from the big rocks.
