Thanks for sharing your experience and recipe. Absolutely appalling that what happened to you at the supermarket is happening in 2022. I have had a similar experience myself at a variety store in Hawke's Bay. A lady followed me around the whole store. I had my children with me, I ended up buying something to show her I could afford it and that I wasn't trying to shoplift. Last time I've stepped foot in that store. You both handled that situation really well. Well done.

I wouldn't mess with Elz. What was he thinking? I got followed every time by a security guard he thought he was Sherlock Holmes . Every isle he appeared and one day I just walked up to him and "stop following me". He just was a power tripping idiot. I told the manager he was creeping me our and he got fired.

Cuts me to hear of your experience and I worry too about our boys when they get older. Spot on, that we need to teach our kids to know their rights and to always speak up showing respect at the same time. My young ones in the family consist of mostly boys and I am hoping some of them or at least one of them will get into law, to be aware and to share the knowledge. Sorry for the novel. Fried rice is always a fave in our house, thank you!

Looking goooood champ. I know little fella is using the mortar & pestle, but if you ever get a little lazy like me, run the garlic through a microplane/zester with the skins still on. The skins stay behind and the garlic gets grated on the other side. But I'm even lazier, I just get the pre-peeled kilo bag of garlic from the fruit & veg shop 😂 As a white fella, there was something really eye opening when I started taking my nephews (I'll say they're brown boys, since that was obviously relevant) into the shops and being followed by staff and hovering at the checkouts. I wish I had the backbone to stand up to that absolute crap. I'm sorry you had to deal with something like that. Don't let that person bring you down, that person has the ugly heart and the ugly soul. Using it as a lesson for your kids is fire 🔥parenting, legends!

It is a shame that people do this to others just because they "assume" that someone cannot afford somethings, or are predestined to steal based upon their looks, skin color, or race. This happens in the U.S. all the time, not just due to race, but also how you look or how you dress... sad to hear that the disease of bias (unconscious or otherwise), is represented over in your part of the world as well.
